What a lovely week inside the Blue and White! The leaves are falling, teachers are creating cozy environments in their rooms and students are learning more day by day. Each week brings something new and exciting.
The senior class of 2024 is back at it again! As each senior is slowly piecing together their post high school plans, Water Valley High has prioritized college visit trips. These visits are important part to help us select a college that caters to each student’s wants and needs.
This past Windy Wednesday, the senior Blue Devils road-tripped right into Ranger territory where they engaged in a great fun! Before the class could even get settled into their seats, the Northwest Community College marching band was greeting them with blaring tunes accompanied by peppy cheerleaders. Northwest students and faculty members also welcomed all of the visitors. We were given the agenda for the day, an in-depth “run down” of all the soon-to-come activities. Seniors learned what is offered at the college, reviewed the application process and scholarship opportunities and got a glimpse of what it’s like to live the Ranger lifestyle. The students were divided into groups based on what degree they play to pursue after high school as the tour started. Each group was guided by a
Northwest student who gave us the inside scoop of what it is like inside the Red and Blue. The Devils concluded their day with a scrumptious lunch provided by Northwest before heading back home. Another successful college trip for the books!
Thursday night was one to remember! Football players, cheerleaders, band members, fans, and support traveled to Bruce High School to watch the varsity Blue Devil football team snatch a victory against the longtime rivalry Bruce Trojans, earning their fourth win of the season and leaving the Trojans in distress on their senior night. The triumphant score was a total of 55-29. Community, the football team needs our support. Come out this Friday night to Bobby Clark Field to cheer the Devils as they host the Philadelphia Tornadoes in the 1st round of playoffs! Kickoff is at 7 p.m.! This is a game you don’t want to miss!
Hmm, what’s for breakfast? Fresh fruit, sausage and biscuits, refreshing juice, and SUCCESS! All of those components were served bright and early Friday morning at the Blue Devil breakfast the high school cafeteria. The breakfast was a celebration for seventh through 12th grade students who showed outstanding academic excellence during the first nine weeks and made the Honor Roll. Students, parents, faculty, and many more gathered for a time of recognition of the deserving students. Teachers and coaches, Chris Yancy and Richard Russo, gave motivational speeches to encourage not only the students but also parents and staff as well to make an active decision to be a leader and continue their good deeds. The breakfast was a hit! A big thanks goes out to the local Chamber of Commerce for sponsoring the celebration, and congratulations to all of the successful students at Water Valley High!
Meanwhile, the varsity basketball teams participated in the Independence Jamboree early Saturday morning. The varsity boys faced Lafayette (24-25) and Rosa Fort (26-33), only falling a few points short of a win each game. The girls’ team had a victorious day, winning every time they touched the court! They competed against Strayhorn (24-15) and Rosa Fort (25-12). Congratulations to all of the basketball team members, they work hard each day to make sure they come together and have good sportsmanship no matter the outcome!
Students are thrilled to be in such a positive atmosphere with their peers, learning all they can before taking off into their bright futures. A big thanks to Water Valley High faculty for encouraging student engagement and creating an enthusiastic environment.
Follow along as I continue to give weekly updates right from within the Blue and White!
