Turnage Is Thankful For ‘Arrests’ In The City

Dear Water Valley Police Department,

Thank you for your month-long fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. When Chief Jason Mangrum arrested me, it was my first time to be arrested in my whole life. But when I found out why (unlike many others) I was glad. You did a great job arresting folks and allowing us to post bond.

Our heart has been in St. Jude since 1962. Our daughter, Karen, was the third patient admitted when it opened in March of 1962. Four months later she lost her battle with cancer. At that time the cure rate was about 20 percent. Today it is up to 80 percent and we praise the Lord for that.

Last week there were some people in the drug store and we visited for a little while. Their daughter was with them and when she was introduced to us, she said her name was Karen. I told her that Karen is a special name in our family and began to tell her our story about Karen.  Then I explained to them that Jo and I have seven grandchildren, six boys and one girl. Bobby and Monica named our only granddaughter, Karen, so we still have a precious Karen in our family.

As we continued to visit, they shared about their family and that two of their family members are alive today because of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This was so encouraging and shows that any and all support of St. Jude is money well invested to make a difference in children’s lives.

Thank, You,
Binnie and Jo Turnage
