The weather may have to go on everyone’s naughty list this year. The Christmas Parade is scheduled for this Friday, but the National Weather Service also has rain on the schedule that same night. The Chamber’s plan for an evening of great big colorful floats and lights and lots of family fun sounds better to me than cold wet stuff falling from the sky, but I didn’t get a vote.
A decision will be announced no later than Thursday noon if the parade will or won’t roll up Main Street as scheduled. If there is a rain delay – or snow so thick Santa can’t see the reindeer in front of the sleigh even with Rudolph’s nose so bright because this is Mississippi and our weather changes every five minutes – then the Christmas Parade will be rescheduled for the same time the next Friday, December 8.
Christmas in the Valley will be held on December 8 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. or following the parade if it is rescheduled. So mark your calendars for that. There will be horse-drawn carriage rides (tickets are $5 and can be purchase that evening), after-hours shopping, Christmas music and plenty of food. Frosty and the Chamber Elf will be visiting with friends along Main Street, and the Junior Auxiliary will have Santa and Mrs. Santa at the Magnolia Coffee Company for pictures with Santa. The Water Valley Main Street Association’s Cookie Stroll is a jolly addition to the evening.
There is one absolute weather prediction – there will be snow in front of the BTC Old Fashioned Grocery at 8 p.m.
The Chamber’s Tour of Home is scheduled the next day on Saturday, December 9. The tour will be open from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at GG’s Flowers & Gifts. This heartwarming event promises to be a delightful journey through the festively adorned homes of five families who have generously opened their doors to share the joy of the season.
Each home will showcase unique and enchanting holiday decorations. From classic Christmas themes to modern interpretations, there’s something to inspire everyone while gathering ideas for your own holiday décor.
The tour includes the homes of: Matt and Megan Patton at 114 Panola Street, Joe and Kathryn York at 315 Panola Street, Lloyd and Caroline Caulfield at 107 Leland Street, Will Cook and Coulter Fussell 207 Wood Street, Cliff and Leigh Johnson at 1275 Highway 7 – just look for the rooster by the mailbox! Personally, I cannot wait to see what that rooster is wearing for the event. He could be voted best dressed poultry in the county.
The Tour of Homes is a family-friendly event, perfect for creating lasting memories with loved ones. Children of all ages will be captivated by the enchanting decorations and the warm feeling of Christmas.
Now a few words about our sponsors – the business-people in Water Valley. This is who the Chamber works to support. These folks are our friends and neighbors. They are also significant contributors to job creation. When you support our local shops and business it helps maintain and create employment opportunities within Water Valley.
This holiday season, consider the impact of your shopping choices. By supporting local small businesses, you’re not just buying a Christmas present; you’re investing in the prosperity of our hometown.
Businesses or individuals interested in becoming a Chamber member can contact the Water Valley Area Chamber of Commerce for additional information.
