WATER VALLEY – A grand jury in the Second Judicial District handed down indictments on 31 true bills during the December 7 session. The indictments that have been served at presstime Tuesday including one count of attempted escape, one count of felony escape and one count of failure to register as a sex offender.
Bradley Washington was indicted for attempted escape. Washington is incarcerated in the Yalobusha County Detention Center and attempted to escape confinement on August 16, 2023,
Terrance Brooks was indicted for felony escape while in custody at the Yalobusha County Detention Center on August 16, 2023. Brooks was in custody for murder charges in Tallahatchie County.
Tyrus Darnell Lewis was indicted for failure to register as a sex offender. Lewis was previously convicted of lustful touching on December 14, 2017, in Yalobusha County.
The remaining indictments have not been served, meaning the identity of the accused is not released until served by law enforcement offices. The remaining indictments in the Second Judicial District in Water Valley from last week’s grand jury are:
• DUI 4th offense – five counts;
• DUI 3rd offense – three counts;
• Possession of methamphetamine (10 grams to 30 grams) – one count;
• Felony fleeing – (one count);
• Possession of methamphetamine (.10 to two grams) – five counts;
• Conspiracy – four counts;
• Possession of methamphetamine (2 to 10 grams) – one count;
• Aggravated assault – one count;
• Felony escape – one count;
• Burglary of a building – three counts;
• Grand larceny – one count; and
• Failure to register as a sex offender – one count.
In the First Judicial District in Coffeeville, a grand jury returned indictments on 22 true bills including indictments for seven counts of first degree murder. The indictments have not been served, but seven suspects were arrested earlier this year in two unrelated murders. Devin Smith, Bralin Jackson, Layvonnia Jackson and Brandon Jackson were each charged with murder after allegedly gunning down West Memphis teenager Fredarrious Wilson on March 5. Wilson’s body was discovered in the Holly Springs National Forest in Yalobusha County.
In the second homicide, Lakedrick Spearman, Zavion Spearman and Anthony Spearman were each charged with murder following the March 30 fatal shooting of Chauncey Armstrong in Coffeeville.
Other indictments issued on December 7 in the First Judicial District are:
• Taking of an automobile (over $25) – one count;
• Possession of methamphetamine (2 to 10 grams) – two counts;
• Felony fleeing – one count;
• Grand larceny – one count:
• Aggravated stalking – one count;
• Attempted burglary of a building – one count;
• Possession of methamphetamine (.10 gram to 10 grams) – one count;
• Conspiracy – seven counts.
