Authorities Probe Multiple Pharmacy Burgarlies

The Drug Store in Coffeeville was broken into Sunday morning around 10 a.m. in what could be related to a string of pharmacy burglaries in the state. The Coffeeville Police Department reported that the suspect broke the front door glass and entered the building. The suspect was wearing all black and got away with cough syrup and schedule II narcotics, which is oxycodone and hydrocodone.
Coffeeville Fire Chief John Beshears reported that first responders in the town were battling a large house fire on Okahoma Street when the burglary was reported.
WVTA reported someone also broke into a pharmacy in Bruce Monday morning. According to the WTVA report, the burglary happened shortly before 8 a.m. at Stepp-Saver Pharmacy on Newberger Avenue. Bruce Police Chief Bryan Roberts also told WTVA that the burglar or burglars stole hydrocodone and cough syrup.
According to the Mississippi Association of Chiefs of Police, the possible suspect vehicles include a white BMW and gray Infiniti.
The WTVA report also said that Starkville and Batesville have also confirmed break-ins at pharmacies in their jurisdictions. Starkville police told WTVA that BJ’s Pharmacy on South Jackson Street was broken into with a metal object around 6:40 a.m. on Sunday.
The suspects didn’t get any narcotics.
In Batesville, the break-in occurred at Davis Pharmacy on the square around 5:30 a.m. Monday.The suspect got away with scheduled II narcotics.
The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and Mississippi Office of Homeland Security are assisting local authorities in investigating the pharmacy break-ins as eight to nine pharmacies have been broken into.
WTVA also reported that Sav-Mor Drugs and Gifts on Commerce Street in Grenada was also hit last weekend. The owner of the pharmacy says that the break-in occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, with the suspect using some kind of object to break out the front glass door to get in. The suspects did not get away with anything.
