WATER VALLEY –A vehicle reported stolen in Florida was recovered by officers with the Water Valley Police Department Monday night. Water Valley Police Chief Jason Mangrum reported Michael Larson, age 42, of Water Valley was charged with receiving stolen property.
The chief said Larson also had an outstanding arrest warrant for simple assault in the city.
“He had been eluding us and had not been in town,” Mangrum said. “Monday night we received word that he was on Greer Street.”
Officers responded and took Larson into custody. Mangrum said they also learned he had been driving the stolen vehicle since Saturday. Larson was booked in the Yalobusha County Detention Center. A $10,000 bond was set during a court appearance Tuesday afternoon. Mangrum said the Mississippi Department of Corrections placed a hold on Larson.
Other activity reported by the chief includes:
• Officers arrested Kenneth Rowsey during a traffic stop on South Main Street Tuesday morning. Rowsey has an active civil contempt warrant with the city and was transported to the Yalobusha County Detention Center.
• Curtis Crow, age 27, of Water Valley was taken into custody after resisting arrest and fighting with officers on April 2. The chief reported officers were dispatched to a disturbance call on Greer Street and Crow refused to comply with officers’ commands.
“He resisted officers and continued fighting while he was placed in the patrol car, kicking one of the officers,” Mangrum explained.
Crow was released after a holding period and charges for resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and assault on a police officer will be presented to a grand jury.
“He was released before the charges were filed with the court with the intent that he will seek assistance for substance abuse. Our intent is to give him an opportunity to obtain help and we will deal with the charges afterwards,” Mangrum told the Herald.
• Donivan Henderson was arrested on March 31 after he was stopped for speeding. He was picked up by Lafayette County authorities on an outstanding warrant.
• Carcetta Morgan of Water Valley was arrested at a driver’s license checkpoint on March 27. Morgan had an active warrant for tampering with physical evidence that dates back to a 2023 murder investigation in the city.
• Tuesday Bishop of Water Valley was arrested on March 26 for domestic violence after officers responded to a disturbance.
