Mt. Liberty News
I hope the week has found you all well. It’s been a pretty slow one for me. We had a work day planned at the church but the rain stopped it and we had to reschedule. We’re going to spruce things up outside. I’m still working on the history of the church piece I’m wanting to do.
Bro. Grant Coffey brought us a hard-to-hear, but important message Sunday. The sermon was from the book by Pastor Bill Weise “20 minutes in Hell.”
God is everywhere. He is always with us. There is one place, however, that God is not. That place is hell. Pastor Bill had an out of body experience and during this time he spent 23 minutes in hell. We all know what we see on television and read in the Bible, but we really don’t know the details. The Bible says hell is a fiery furnace where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.
In Matthew 13:47-50, Jesus tells us how the good is separated from the bad. Pastor Bill says the 23 minutes there felt like 200 years. First, he was in a prison cell with stone walls and floors (Isaiah 24:22). Then he recalls the intense heat. It’s the kind of heat that can’t sustain life. He had no strength to move (Isaiah 14:9-10). There were two large demons in the cell with him. They were giants he estimated at 12 feet tall with claws that were a foot long. They were yelling and blaspheming God. Then they directed that anger to him. I’ve threw him against the wall while the other slashed open his back. He noticed there was no blood. Blood is the flow of life (Lev. 17:11). While he was conscious of what was happening, he did not have life because Jesus is life.
He was taken from the cell to a huge pit of fire (Matt. 13:50). He saw people burning and screaming and the flesh coming off them. At this point he realized he would never leave. This was his eternity. There is no sleep, only chaos and confusion. The air is foul and putrid. He couldn’t get enough air. Jesus is the breath of life.
Then he looked down and saw he was barefoot standing on maggots (Isaiah 14:11). Then a numbing fear came over him. A fear that can’t be described. He was lonely although people were there. People may ask why God made this place.
Hell was not made for mankind. It was made for Satan and his demons. God does not send people to hell; they send themselves. He doesn’t want any of us to go to this horrid place. It is up to us to believe on Jesus and find salvation.
If you’re saved, now you know what you’re saved from. It you’re not saved, then you need to make a decision on where you want to spend eternity. I know people want to hear about the love of God, but it’s not right to not tell people about the other side of things. Eternity will be long and where you spend it does matter. We are all appointed to die once, then comes judgment.
I hope people really reflect on this message and take it seriously. God is real, heaven is real.
Unfortunately, so is Satan and hell. I hope you all have a blessed week. If you’re looking for a home church, we invite you to join us. Services begin at 11.
