The boards of both the Town of Oakland and the Oakland Chamber of Commerce are pleased to invite area citizens to join in planning for the future of the town and the area on Saturday, July 20, from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Chamber Building at 304 Holly Street.
“We are so excited to hear from the people of Oakland and the surrounding area about what they can envision for the future,” said Linda Ross Aldy, Chamber Executive Director. The session is designed to help the community create a vision and a plan for reaching that vision. Participants will share ideas and help set priorities and timelines to guide the two boards.
Following the public input session, the two boards will gather to pull together a strategic plan that can be used as a guide for decisions made to reach the goals outlined in the plan.
Chris Hinton, Community Development Manager for Entergy Mississippi, will facilitate the sessions. Aldy will assist with the public input portion.
Hinton provides economic, community and workforce development support to Entergy’s 45-county service area. A career that spans nearly two decades, Hinton has previously worked as a lobbyist for the Mississippi Municipal League, project manager for Natchez Inc. and membership manager for Mississippi Economic Development Council.
Chris obtained a Master’s in Economic Development from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Bachelor’s in Economics with an emphasis in Business Administration from Tougaloo College.
In addition, he is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma’s Economic Development Institute. He is currently a member of the Southern Economic Development Council (SEDC), South Central MS Works and the Mississippi Economic Development Council (MEDC). He serves as president of the Mississippi Main Street Association, which Oakland has just joined, and continues to serve on boards for the Mississippi District Export Council and Jobs for MS Graduates. He holds alumnus status with Leadership Mississippi, Leadership Natchez, Delta Leadership Institute and the Harvard Kennedy School Authentic Leaders Program.
Chris’ career achievements include Mississippi Business Journal’s Top 40 Under 40 Business Leaders, Mississippi SBA Minority Small Business Champion and Development Counsellors International’s (DCI) Top 40 Under 40 Game Changer in Economic Development. Earlier this year, Hinton received the MS Development Authority’s Marsha Hamilton Spirit Award during the MEDC Legislative Conference.
