OAKLAND – The Town of Oakland and the Oakland Area Chamber of Commerce are hosting an open forum on Saturday, July 20 from 9-11 am for all interested area citizens to offer input into the development of a strategic plan for Oakland and the vicinity. The session will take place at the Chamber Office at 304 Holly Street, next door to the Oakland Public Library.
“If you’d like to be a part of helping our area grow, please join us. Our Chamber covers Oakland and the area around it,” reported Chamber Executive Director Linda Ross Aldy.
The invitation to attend is extended to people who live in Tillatoba, Scobey, Enid, Cossar Park, or other non-incorporated areas in western Yalobusha County.
“Or if you just want to see Oakland grow and prosper, you are invited,” Aldy added.
People interested in this effort who are unable to attend can submit their suggestions about what the area needs in order to grow. Input can be emailed to Oaklandareachamber@gmail.com by Friday at noon.
“We hope to have a few exciting announcements to kick off the session.”
Aldy reported that while the Chamber conducts annual listening sessions for the community, this one will delve more deeply into how to reach the goals and will be used to develop a plan which will be officially adopted by the two boards as their roadmap in decision-making going forward.
Chris Hinton, Entergy Community Development Specialist, will lead the session.

The Oakland Area Chamber of Commerce launched in December, 2021, to help revitalize the town and surrounding areas. On Sunday, the organization reported on Facebook that after two years of working to recruit a grocery store to the town, they can share that one is coming. More details about the store will be released in late July.
