Love and sympathy is extended to the family of Joy Calder Walton. Joy, of Tillatoba, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at the Baptist Hospital in Oxford at the age of 74. She was laid to rest at the Union Cemetery in Tillatoba.
We had a surprise visit last week from our friend, Elizabeth McKinney, and her son, Jordan. Liz and Jordan have moved from Gore Springs to Brazil. It was so good seeing Jordan again, I have loved him since he was a little boy.
Martha Box reported she stayed most of the weekdays and did not get much work done . She enjoyed a couple of cool mornings sipping coffee on her porch. She loves listening to nature and humming birds.
Martha had her brother, Jesse, and the boys over for biscuits and tomato gravy Saturday morning. She enjoyed supper with her sister, Joyce, at the Hut Saturday night.
She also reported a wonderful family meal at her house Sunday evening as they celebrated Lilly’s big birthday. Lilly is her daughter, Candy’s baby.
“Such a good time by us all. So great to have the whole family together with such good food and fun!,” Martha said. “I hear it’s going to be hot this week so I plan to stay in and ‘piddle.’”
I do a lot of piddling myself Martha!
Another surprise visit Saturday afternoon at your writer’s house as Alan and Janie McMillian of Hernando stopped in. It was so good to see them. Alan had lost some weight since his heart surgery but is looking good and doing great now.
Those attending the birthday party for Haven Rose Dukes Saturday were Tommy and Lisa Havens; Tommy’s sister, Brenda Stroup; Diane, Terri, Bubba, JR, Junior, Kathy and Connor Dukes; Logan Rose; Sam and Anna Pullen and children, Andrew and Jo; Kat Benson; Tim and Scottie Little; Ethon and Coy Havens; and David and Pat Deck. The kids had a lot of fun playing in the fun house, as I call them, and some of the grownups were sliding down the slide.
Waylon and Holly did a fantastic job of entertaining everyone and served hamburgers, hot dogs and birthday cake – it was good!
Ginger Harrison said they had a good day Sunday. Her son, Josh, sang and played his guitar in church. He did a great job play “I Saw The Light.” Ginger had a great lunch with Diane Hill. Then they celebrated Lilly Whitaker’s birthday Sunday evening. They had a great time visiting. Candy Box made a really good peach cobbler that Lilly, her daughter, had requested. Josh headed back to college after the party.
Thanks to my sweet daughter, Donna, for coming and putting up okra for us. Now I can have some for my soup this winter!
Happy birthday to Chuck Hathcock the 27th; Louise Gaither on the 28th; Ann Kirk and Johnny Jackson on the 29th; Chad Eskridge on the 30th; and starting September birthdays on the first are Elena Young and Tommy Parker; Jack Bowman and Annette Ford celebrate the 2nd; and Susan Howe on the 3rd. I hope all of you have a blessed day!
Thought for the day… Would I rather be feared or loved? Easy. Both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me.”
