WATER VALLEY – City officers are investigating a hit-and-run following a bizarre incident that occurred Monday morning on Wood Street.
Water Valley Police Chief Jason Mangrum reported officers responded to a residence on Wood Street around 11 a.m. after a property owner dialed 911 to report a man was outside his vehicle with his britches around his ankles.
The caller had pulled in the driveway, unknowingly blocking the man and a female passenger from driving away. Mangrum said the caller relayed details to the dispatcher, who provided updates to the responding officer as the situation escalated.
First the caller was concerned that the man was going to ram her vehicle. Shortly afterwards, she told the dispatcher that the man was ramming her vehicle, forcing his way back to the Wood Street and speeding west towards Main.
The responding officer was only a little over a minute away but did not spot the fleeing vehicle. Police recovered evidence at the scene, a piece of the front bumper from the SUV the man was driving. Officers also received tips later in the day about the possible location of the vehicle.
“This case remains under investigation, but we have some strong leads that could lead to an arrest,” Mangrum said.
