It’s hard to imagine Christmas with temperatures soaring into the 90s and everyone still in shorts and t-shirts, but at the Chamber of Commerce, the spirit of the season is already in the air. We’re excited to share that plans are well underway for this year’s Christmas Parade, and now is the perfect time to start thinking about how you’d like to join in the festivities.
As you enjoy these last long summer days, picture yourself on Friday, December 13, when our beautiful downtown will be transformed into a winter wonderland, filled with the magic and joy of the holiday season. The theme for this year’s parade is “Christmas Shows & Movies,” and it’s bound to inspire a flood of nostalgic memories. Imagine floats decked out to celebrate the heartwarming antics of Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye in White Christmas, or perhaps the hilarious misadventures of Ralphie in A Christmas Story. Maybe your favorite is the endearing journey of Buddy in Elf, a film that has become a modern holiday staple.
But the fun doesn’t stop at the movies—there are also those beloved Christmas TV specials that have been a part of our holiday traditions for generations. Who could forget the timeless lessons of A Charlie Brown Christmas, the mischievous grin of the Grinch in How the Grinch Stole Christmas, or the magical tale of Frosty the Snowman? These shows bring families together every year, filling our homes with the warmth and joy of the season.
Participating in the parade is not just about creating a stunning float or a memorable performance; it’s about creating moments that will be cherished for years to come. Whether you’re marching in the band, driving a beautifully decorated antique car, riding on a float or watching from the sidelines with a group of friends and family, you’re contributing to something truly special. The laughter of children, the twinkle of lights, and the joy of the season that fills the air—it’s all part of the tradition that makes our Water Valley Christmas Parade so enchanting.
This year, there will be five entry categories to ensure there’s a place for everyone: Business/Organization Float; Business/Organization Non-Float; Marching Band/School Organization; Street Legal/Antique/Emergency Vehicles; and Other. Please note that all drivers of any vehicle must be over 18 and licensed, ensuring everyone’s safety while we celebrate.
And here’s some exciting news—prizes will be awarded for the most outstanding entries! The grand prize winner for Best Float will take home $250, while the top float in each category will receive $100. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase your creativity, spread some holiday cheer, and maybe even win a little something for your efforts!
If you’re interested in participating, entry forms will are available from Parade Chairman Tonya Eubanks at tonyaeubanks@ohcm.ms. So, as you bask in the warmth of summer, start dreaming of snowflakes, twinkling lights, and the sweet sounds of Christmas carols. We’re eagerly awaiting the creative ideas and festive spirit that you’ll bring to this year’s parade. Let’s make this holiday season one to remember!
