WATER VALLEY – The Water Valley junior high and junior varsity swept the J.Z. George Tigers in home games as the seventh grade, eighth grade and junior varsity teams came out victorious in the home game on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
The seventh graders earned their first career victory to the tune of a 28 to 0 in a shutout victory. Running back Noah Judson got the scoring started with a 70-yard rushing touchdown behind the offensive line of Conner Potts, Aiden Pegues, Knox Golson, Jaylon Morris and Lee Hutchins. Quarterback Brycen Elmore ran in the two-Point conversion on a busted play to give the seventh graders an 8-0 lead.
The ever-improving seventh grade defense forced a quick three-and-out of the Jaguars and Judson again found paydirt with a 53-yard rushing touchdown strike. Elmore found wideout K.C. Hervey for the two-point Conversion Pass.
Defensively, the Blue Devils were paced by Klayton Norlander, Judson, and Elmore with five total tackles each.
The second half was more of the same as Elmore had a 46-yard rushing touchdown, and Norlander ended the scoring on a 63-yard rush of his own. The seventh grade improves to (1-2) with the win.
The 2024 edition of the eighth grade Blue Devils continue their dominance with 12 straight defensive shutout quarters to improve to (3-0). They defeated the visiting Jaguars 30 to zero on the evening.
The Jaguars came to play as they maintained possession the entire first quarter of play. To begin the second quarter, the Blue Devils made a stand right outside of their own red zone thanks to a disciplined play by cornerback Darius Rubio on a quarterback throwback trick play. The Blue Devils Offense made the Jaguars pay for not finishing their drive as running back De’Marea Johnson scored on a 73-yard rush. Quarterback Easton Newman ran in the Two-Point Conversion.
The Blue Devils settled in on defense and dominated the rest of the second quarter. Johnson again found the endzone behind the offensive line of Brycen Perry, Cooper Burrowes, Carter Pullen, Alden Hubbard, Mitch Edwards, and Jose Guzman. The second half was all Blue Devils as Newman had a 70-Yard rushing touchdown, Johnson added another, and running Back Landy Logan found the end zone as well.
Reserve running back Anthony Telford added the final two-point Conversion to end the scoring.
Defensively, the Blue Devils were paced by Johnson and Ken Hervey with six total tackles each.
Not to be outdone, the junior varsity Blue Devils earned their first victory of the season with a 12 to zero shutout win to end the nightcap. Running back Drake Mabary had both rushing touchdowns on a 70-yard rush and a 53-yard rush respectively. His offensive line of Kaleb Vire, Alex Spruill, Jay Hervey, Peyton Chandler, Zy’Kari Shaw, and Nehemiah Brown opened gaping holes for the junior back.
Defensively, Keshun Kurtz had a coming-out party with seven total tackles and two sacks. Preston Potts added a Fumble Recovery and Mabary and Parker Logan added four tackles each.
All three teams were back in action at presstime Tuesday at J.Z. George for another matchup.
