WATER VALLEY – A Coffeeville man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine following a disturbance at Rascal’s convenience store on Central Street Monday night.
Water Valley Police Chief Jason Mangrum reported Jasman Robinson, 40, was also charged with disorderly conduct after failing to comply with responding officers. The chief reported Robinson attracted scrutiny from store employees after trying on clothes inside the business and opening a beer.
“The employees locked him inside the building and waited outside for officers to get there,” Mangrum added.
Officers arrived and went inside to investigate. Robinson was incoherent and did not comply with a request to empty his pockets. Mangrum reported that a plastic bag with a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine was confiscated after the suspect tried to toss the bag.
Robinson was booked in the Yalobusha County Detention Center just before midnight. A $10,000 bond was set during a court appearance Tuesday morning.
Other activity reported by the chief includes:
• Robert Matthew Reeves, 18, of Oakland was charged with embezzlement. Mangrum reported Reeves was an employee at a business on South Main Street and allegedly stole money from the business. The chief said the alleged theft occurred on Sept. 17 and the owner discovered the missing money the following day. Reeves was arrested Monday.
“We have video surveillance from inside the business that assisted in this investigation,” Mangrum said.
Reeves also provided information to officers connecting him to the crime.
“Basically he told us he needed the money to pay traffic tickets in Oakland,” Mangrum said.
Reeves’ bond was set for $10,000.
• Officers took Justin Tucker, 26, of Water Valley into custody for outstanding warrants from Lafayette County. Mangrum said Tucker was apprehended on Sept. 17 after officers responded to a call of a possible domestic disturbance near 301 North Main Street.
“He was transferred to Lafayette County,” the chief said.
