WATER VALLEY – Grand juries in Yalobusha County’s First Judicial District and Second Judicial District met on Sept. 26. In the Second District (Water Valley), the grand jury handed down indictments on 20 true bills and in the First District (Coffeeville) the grand jury handed down indictments on six true bills.
The indictments remained sealed until the accused is served by the Yalobusha County Sheriff’s Department. An indictment is a formal charge, meaning that the members of the grand jury found probable cause that a crime was committed. An indictment is not proof of guilt, instead it triggers the criminal proceedings.
The list of indictments in the Second Judicial District include:
• One count of DUI (fourth offense);
• Two counts of DUI (third offense);
• Three counts of felon in possession of a weapon;
• One count of aggravated domestic violence;
• One count of burglary of a building;
• One count of possession of methamphetamine (10 g – 30g);
• One count of burglary of a dwelling;
• One count of armed robbery;
• One count of assault on law enforcement;
• One count of grand larceny;
• Four counts of sale of cocaine; and
• One count of sale of methamphetamine (.10 – 2 g);
The list of indictments in the First Judicial District include:
• One count of sale of methamphetamine (less than two grams);
• One count of possession with intent, methamphetamine (2g-10g); and
• Two counts of burglary of a building.
Six additional defendants have been served from indictments handed down by grand juries who met in an earlier session on June 11. The Herald published the names of five defendants who were indicted on June 11 in August. The defendants served not previously reported in the Herald include:
• Lekedrick Darnell Whitehead was indicted for one count of grand larceny and one count of conspiracy to commit a crime. According to the indictment, Whitehead conspired with Stephanie Renee Potts to steal an 18-foot trailer valued at $2,500 on Feb. 4, 2024.
• Derrick Dejuan Short was indicted for one count of motor vehicle theft, one count of conspiracy to commit a crime and one count of felon in possession of a weapon. According to the indictment, Short conspired with Candice Leigh Sims on May 23, 2023, to steal a vehicle. Short was indicted as a habitual offender as he was previously convicted for possession of methamphetamine in Yalobusha County in 2023 and possession of methamphetamine in Panola County in 2021.
• Candice Leigh Sims was indicted for one count of motor vehicle theft and one count of conspiracy to commit a crime (see above).
• Darrion Kyshonne White was indicted for DUI – fourth offense. White was arrested on January 28, 2024 for said offense.
• Justin Scott Hadorn was indicted for two counts of vehicle theft. According to the indictment, Hadorn entered a 1998 Jeep Wrangler and a 1994 Ford Ranger to steal items on October 1.
• Charles Clinton Sartin was indicted for one count of burglary of a building. According to the indictment, Sartin broke into Wright’s Place, LLC, on April 26, 2023.
