WATER VALLEY – The Blue Devils hosted Class 6A Saltillo Tigers on Friday, Oct. 4, for homecoming night. Early miscues sent Water Valley spiraling as the larger Tigers defeated the homestanding Blue Devils 55 to 0 and the record falls to (2-4).
Early on, it seemed as though the Blue Devils would match the larger school’s physicality as the Blue Devils took the opening kickoff and drove it into the Tigers’ side of the field. However, an errant third down pass attempt was intercepted and took back all the way to put the Tigers up eight to 0. On the next two ensuing drives, the Blue Devils were forced to punt, but errant punt snaps gave the Tigers the short field and before one could blink it was 22 to 0 in the first quarter.
It was much of the same for the remainder of the evening. Offensively, the Blue Devils were paced by Zae Bradford and Tre Adams as they both accounted for over 20 yards rushing. Defensively, Reid Burress and Kamauir Page led the Blue Devil tacklers.
“We are going to grade this film with a fine tooth comb and look hard for those who are giving effort and doing things the right way,” Head Coach Clint Faust told the team in the post game huddle. “Me and these coaches are committed to getting this fixed. “We will be here Sunday at film study to do that and you flush this and be here Monday morning to get this fixed.”
The Blue Devils will host the defending MHSAA Class 1A State Champion Biggersville Lions on a short week Thursday, October 10, on a designated “Pink Out” for “Cancer Awareness.”
Kickoff at Bobby Clark Field is slated for 7 p.m.
