WATER VALLEY – A Water Valley man was arrested for felony DUI on Nov. 10. Police Chief Jason Mangrum reported Christopher Simmons, 42, of Water Valley was arrested at a driver’s safety checkpoint on Boyd Street after officers detected the odor of an intoxicating beverage and launched a DUI investigation.
Simmons was booked in the Yalobusha County Detention Center. Mangrum explained that Simmons had a prior conviction for felony DUI.
Other activity reported by the chief includes:
• Tony Wade, 48, of Water Valley was arrested for DUI, second offense. Wade was arrested on Nov. 8 at a driver’s safety checkpoint on Wise Street. Mangrum reported that officers detected the odor of an intoxicating beverage and launched a DUI investigation. Wade was booked in the Yalobusha County Detention Center.
• Cory Arbuckle, 30, of Water Valley was arrested on Nov. 7 for simple assault after officers responded to a disturbance at an apartment on Blackmur Drive.
“Officers arrived and learned that two people had been drinking and had an altercation. Officers determined that Mr. Arbuckle was the aggressor and arrested him,” Mangrum told the Herald.
• Kendarious Broom was arrested on Nov. 7 for an outstanding warrant from a vehicle burglary that was reported back in May. Mangrum said Broom left town after the incident and had been staying in Memphis.
“He came back to town and we were able to make an arrest,” Mangrum added.
The warrant stems from a single count of vehicle burglary. The chief said officers obtained incriminating video footage of the crime.
“We had several vehicle burglaries that night, but only have strong proof connecting Broom to one of them,” Mangrum said.
The chief also reported that his department continues to investigate a string of vehicle burglaries reported on October 29 in the city involving at least 10 different vehicles.
“I feel confident that we are going to solve this case and it will involve multiple juveniles,” Mangrum said.
