Authorities have responded to three different shootings on Kennedy Street in Coffeeville in November. Yalobusha County deputies (above) are pictured gathering evidence from the first shooting on Nov. 13.
COFFEEVILLE – A pair of weekend shootings in Coffeeville marks the third time in November that law enforcement officers have responded to gunfire on Kennedy Street. Yalobusha County Sheriff Jerimaine Gooch reported that the weekend shootings were at the same residence involving the same victim and remain under investigation.
The sheriff also said an investigation continues into an earlier shooting at a different location on Kennedy Street on Nov. 13 that is not believe to be related to last weekend’s gunplay.
Sheriff Gooch reported that the Coffeeville Police Department is the lead agency in last weekend’s shootings. The sheriff told the Herald that the first shooting was reported around 8:30 p.m. Friday night and the victim sustained minor injuries. Authorities were dispatched to the same residence at 12:40 Monday morning and this time the same victim sustained moderate injuries and was transported for medical treatment. Coffeeville officers took one person in custody in connection to Friday’s shooting, but details have not been released.
In the earlier shooting on Nov. 13, Gooch reported that his department was dispatched to Kennedy Street to investigate a drive-by shooting. No injuries were reported in this incident, but the sheriff reported two vehicles and a house were struck when multiple rounds from a 9mm handgun were fired.
“One person was exiting his vehicle and was in the line of fire. Thankfully he was not hit,” Gooch said.
Deputies remained on the scene several hours collecting evidence and checking for surveillance footage from home security cameras in the vicinity.
“We are pursing some strong leads on the Nov. 13 shooting and are narrowing down the list of suspects,” Gooch said. “Evidence indicates that this shooting was not random and we have a person of interest in this case.”
Other activity reported by the sheriff includes:
• Joshua Lott, 30, of Oakland was arrested on October 30 by Gooch for an outstanding bench warrant.
The sheriff reported Circuit Judge Jimmy McClure issued the bench warrant on January 9, 2019, after Lott failed to comply with conditions of drug court. Lott had evaded authorities for over five years until the sheriff spotted him at a residence in Oakland. He waited for Lott to leave the residence and attempted a traffic stop.
Lott failed to stop, triggering a brief pursuit that ended near Interstate 55 in Oakland. Lott was charged with felony pursuit .
He is currently in custody and a revocation hearing for not complying with conditions of drug court is scheduled on Dec. 5 at the Tate County courthouse in Senatobia.
• Christopher Nester, 39, of Water Valley was arrested on Nov. 7 for possession of methamphetamine on County Road 27 near Cossar State Park. Deputies responded to a disturbance call and made the arrest.
• Grady White, 28, of Water Valley was arrested for disturbing the peace on Nov. 6. The arrest was made on County Road 225.
