Senior basketball players were recognized during the senior night ceremony at Water Valley High School on Jan. 28. The seniors players are Donalvin Wilson, Aquaree Berry, Liam Ennis, Elise Turner and Anthony Butler.
Welcome back to Inside the Blue and White and another report about a busy, busy week in the halls of WVHS with events like senior night, scrimmages, and the annual beauty review! It was an exciting week for all.
Counselor Jonathan Barnes had the opportunity to spend the week in Washington, D.C., representing the State of Mississippi in the American School Counselor Association’s “School Counselor of the Year” Celebration! We are so thankful for the work he puts in to help students succeed.
Basketball is wrapping up their busy season, but not without a few final games. Both the varsity boys and varsity girls faced the M.S. Palmer Dragons on Tuesday’s senior night game. The girls had an action-packed match against the Dragons, and came out victorious with a big win for senior night, 50-44!
In between the girls and boys games, all of the class of 2025 senior basketball players were recognized for their dedication to the sport.
Following senior recognition, the varsity boys played a thrilling game against Palmer. Though they fought hard, the Devils lost 56-63. Both teams faced off at Strayhorn on Friday evening to finish out the regular season. The Lady Devils found big success, winning their last game. The Blue Devils also played hard, finishing their season off in a 66-28 win over the Mustangs. Both teams will play again at the district 2-2A tournament February 4th-7th, in the Water Valley High School gymnasium.

Freshman Bentlee Tucker was named Most Beautiful in the Water Valley High School 2025 Beauty Review’s junior division.
Baseball is getting ready to kick off their season, and had Meet the Devils on Saturday afternoon. Players were recognized before playing a scrimmage against one another.
Members of the Student Council were busy gearing up for the annual WVHS Beauty Review, a pageant for Water Valley students grades 7th-12th. With decorating and practice on Sunday afternoon, the organization was ready to host a fun night at Davidson Elementary on Monday! I personally love the Beauty Review, as I find that no matter what, it is always fun to dress up and be in the spotlight. Everyone looked so gorgeous in their dresses, all done up. With a variety of fun awards, judges scored contestants on aspects such as their walk, confidence, personality, etc.
We had the 2024 9th-11th Most Beautiful, Addy Douglas; and 2024 Senior Most Beautiful Ashyln Darby present to pass down the title to this year’s winners.
In the younger grade division, freshman Bentlee Tucker took home the title of Most Beautiful. In the senior division, I was crowned Most Beautiful. I stood next to some absolutely beautiful girls, both inside and out, so I was really honored to be presented this title.
Ms. Gennifer Carwile is the real MVP of the night, however. She has been working so hard for months, and has overcome all kinds of challenges thrown her way when planning this event. With a last minute location change, we weren’t even sure how it was going to happen, but Ms. Carwile made sure it did. She definitely deserves a lot of credit for a wonderful night.
I also want to thank GG’s Flowers and Gifts for the wonderful sashes and flowers, as well as Mrs. Anna Koshenina for helping to live stream the event for any loved ones out of town or unable to attend. It has been so busy around the halls of school here lately, and as we approach spring, bringing state tests, graduation, and the end of another school year, I am quite sure that we will only become more busy. I’ll continue to write about all that happens at Water Valley High School and keep you up to date on all the student activities!
