Water Valley Softball Loses Season Opener To Vardaman
The Water Valley Lady Devils (0-1, 0-0 2-2A) couldn’t keep up with the Vardaman Lady Rams and fell 16-2 on Tuesday. Bethany Adams started on the mound for the Lady Devils, allowing 10 hits and 16 runs (11 earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking five.
Vardaman started hot in the top of the first inning scoring four runs and then five more in the second. They added to their early lead in the top of the third inning when Gracie Chandler doubled, scoring one run, and Lyla Chandler tripled, scoring two runs, but the Lady Blue Devils were game to play catch up.
Edee Henderson and Trynaidee’ Walton were tough in the middle of the Devils lineup, as each drove in one run for the team. Ryley Hill, Mariah Wilson, and Walton each collected one hit, with Hill having an “exciting” double to start the game.
Head Coach Mike Howland had nothing but praise for the girls. “We faced a good team tonight that was well coached and minimized their mistakes. Our girls played real cohesively and while we had some errors that cost us, we’ll learn from those and make corrections. Bethany (Adams) looked solid for her first time out and I’m excited to see how they all adjust as the season progresses.”
Next up for the Lady Devils is a game at Independence on Thursday, with another game at Winona on Friday.
