Water Valley Mayor Tommy Reynolds cut the ribbon to celebrate the installation of two electric vehicle chargers on Main Street last Wednesday. The charging station is the 50th installed as part of Tennessee Valley Authority’s Fast Charge Network Program. With a larger-than-usual ribbon, it took several attempts with the ceremonial scissors and prompted a round of laughter.
WATER VALLEY – City officials joined with Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and Seven States Power Corporation to celebrate the installation of two electric vehicle fast chargers and the 50th charging station as part of TVA’s Fast Charge Network Program. The charging station is located on Main Street and construction was completed in December.
“We are excited to support the City of Water Valley in this effort,” reported Chad Wilson, Customer Relations Manager with TVA. “This is the 50th charging station installed in connection with this program.”
Wilson shared that TVA’s goal is to install charging stations at 50 mile intervals along major highways and interstates in its seven-state coverage area. The chargers in Water Valley were paid for with TVA grant funds in a partnership with Skyview and all revenue received from vehicles that charge at the location will go to the city for the first five years. The average charging fee is around $25. After the first five years, the city will receive revenue from normal electricity sales and leases on three parking spaces.
“We appreciate Tennessee Valley Authority, we appreciate the other entities that helped with this project,” Mayor Tommy Reynolds noted. “This is a project that the city did not have to spend money to fund, but there was a lot of work that went into it. TVA has been very supportive of this community for generations.”
Seven States Power Corporation also supported the project. Seven States is a non-profit energy corporation that helps electric provider companies in TVA’s coverage area with technology projects.
