Oakland’s Yalo-Ribbon Festival Is Saturday

Oakland’s Yalo-Ribbon Festival is set for Sat., May 3. The Kids Zone, featuring a mechanical bull rider for all ages, is a crowd-pleaser. Selby Brooks, 4-year-old daughter of Madison and Brandon Brooks, enjoyed the ride at last year’s Festival.
Now in its fourth year, Oakland’s Yalo-Ribbon Festival kicks off at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 3. Vendors and the Kids Zone along with DJ Bob Murphree lead off the festival. The ever-popular cake walk begins at 3:30 p.m. with tickets available at the Oakland Area Chamber booth beginning at 2:30 p.m. Live music begins at 4 p.m.
Local country music favorites Jessey Higdon and Steve McGregory lead off the afternoon’s live music. McGregory is well-known in Oakland as the pianist at Oakland Baptist Church. The two musicians have played together for years now and cover country plus fan favorites like Jimmy Buffet. McGregory has played on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry.
New to the Oakland stage this year is Tanner Mills, who plays country music ranging from the 90’s to present day. Tanner begins at 5 p.m. Closing out the music will be the duo Variety. They perform around the mid-south to great reviews. The duo’s performance begins at 6 p.m. Live music is sponsored by the Ed and Becky Meek Foundation. No coolers.
The Kids Zone, staffed by volunteers from the Oakland Lions’ Club, will feature the mechanical bull ride again this year along with face-painting and multiple games and events.
