Raul Santana touches up a few spots on the wall.
WATER VALLEY – City Hall received a much-needed facelift this month—just in time for the Watermelon Carnival. A lime slurry coating was applied to the building’s exterior as part of a two-coat process. The work was done by Raul Santana and Marino Mejia, who began the week-long project on July 18.
Mayor Tommy Reynolds said the treatment—often called lime wash—is an all-organic mixture with no chemicals, designed to improve the appearance of the building while allowing the bricks to breathe.
“It’s an exterior glaze that improves aesthetics without compromising the structure,” Reynolds explained.
The project was approved by the Board of Aldermen during their July 2, 2024, meeting and is being funded entirely through donations. The mayor noted that the building was constructed in the early 1960s as a small fire station and has since morphed into City Hall.
The work was made possible with strong support from Liz and Tommy Reynolds.
