Betty Jean McCain Moorhead
WATER VALLEY – Betty Jean McCain Moorhead, age 88, died Friday April 3, 2026 at Yalobusha General Nursing Home in Water Valley, MS. She was born September 11, 1937 in Yalobusha County, MS to the late Pearlie S. and Leula “Lumpy” Wilburn McCain.
Betty had a natural enthusiasm for sharing her thoughts and insights, and she genuinely enjoyed offering guidance to anyone open to hearing her perspective. She lived life on the edge and had many stories to tell from her 88 years of adventures.
A memorial service for Betty will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to your local SPCA.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Theresa Moorhead Chandler of Water Valley; her son, Stoney Moorhead of Water Valley; two brothers, Jerry (Linda) McCain of Ackerman and Sam (Kristen) McCain of Grand Junction, Colo.; and her grandson, Justin Lee Chandler of Raleigh, N.C.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Ann Hill and Ila Mae McMinn; three brothers, Robert Lee McCain, Stanley McCain and Shelby McCain; and a slew of beloved dogs.

WATER VALLEY – Michael Steven Stricklin passed away March 31, 2026, at the age of 46. Born May 15, 1979, in Water Valley, Michael was a beloved son, brother and friend whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of everyone who knew him.
Growing up in Water Valley, Michael graduated from Water Valley High School in 1997, where he made many lifelong friends and memories. Known for his gentle spirit and willingness to help others, he worked in health care as a janitor, helping maintain a clean and welcoming environment for those in need. He also gave back to the community through work at the local food pantry and by lending a hand at his church.
Michael had a knack for detailing vehicles and worked at Cannon Motors, where he took pride in his work and was always willing to pitch in wherever needed. He had a passion for collecting Hot Wheels and model cars, a hobby that brought him great joy and reflected his playful spirit.
Michael is survived by his mother, Ruth Stricklin, and his brother, Kerry Stricklin. He was preceded in death by his father, James Stricklin, and his brother, James Lamar Stricklin.
A memorial service will be held at Freedom Place Church on Wednesday, April 8, at 6 p.m. Family and friends are invited.
