Hello everyone, and welcome back to another week inside the Blue and White! Y’all, it has been a week. Let me catch you up on everything that’s been happening.
The Lady Devil volleyball team had a great weekend on the court. On Saturday, they hosted a tournament and didn’t drop a single game. They took care of Charleston and Independence, both in straight sets, 2-0. And they weren’t done. On Monday, Sept. 21, the Lady Devils pulled off a reverse sweep against Winona, dropping the first two sets before storming back to take the match in five. If you’ve never seen a reverse sweep, let me tell you, there’s nothing like it. Most teams would’ve let their heads drop after falling behind two sets, thankfully not this group. They dug deep, found another gear, and refused to quit. I don’t know about y’all, but I’m already looking forward to seeing what they do next.
Over on the football field, the Blue Devils traveled to Eupora on Friday and unfortunately fell short, 22-8. It wasn’t the night we wanted, and I know the guys are hurting after that one. But here’s the thing about this team — they don’t stay down. They’ll be back in the film room this week, working to fix the little things, and they’ll be ready to go when Friday rolls around. Football is a long season, and this group has too much fight in them to let one loss define it.
And speaking of athletes who are putting in the work, a big congratulations to Easton Newman! Easton, an outfielder in the class of 2029, turned heads at the North Mississippi Fall ID showcase, putting up some serious numbers on the leaderboards. He clocked a 7.18-second 60-yard dash — good for fifth in the state and posted a max run speed of 19.5 mph, which landed him fourth. For those of you keeping score at home, that’s some serious speed coming out of the Valley. It takes a lot of early mornings and hard work to show out like that in front of scouts, and we couldn’t be prouder of him.
Off the field, our health science classes got a real taste of the future this week. They spent time at Cornerstone Rehabilitation Center for their first clinical of the year. For students who want to go into health care — whether that’s nursing, therapy or anything in between — there’s no substitute for getting out there and seeing the job up close. It’s one thing to read about it in a textbook. It’s totally different to walk into a facility and be part of the real thing.
Mark your calendars, because the 2026 band competition schedule is officially out! The band will kick things off at the Conquistadors Classic on Sept. 26 in Olive Branch, Miss.
Well, that’s another week in the books here in the Valley. From a perfect Saturday on the volleyball court to a reverse sweep that had everyone on their feet, from our health science students getting real-world experience to the band gearing up for competition season, there was never a dull moment.
