Hey y’all, and welcome back to another week of Inside the Blue and White! It’s been a busy one at Water Valley High School, and I’m so glad you’re here to catch up with us.
Let’s start with some big news: the Water Valley High School has been rated a “B” school. That rating comes straight from attendance and test score averages, so it’s a reflection of every student who showed up and showed out. Way to go, Blue Devils!

For the first time in more than 20 years, the WVHS marching band performed at the state band competition. Twenty-plus years of waiting, and they finished in seventh place in 2A on Saturday. That’s something to be proud of, and it’s a moment our band family will remember for a long time.
Also, students from Davidson Elementary and Water Valley High School competed in the Special Olympics bowling competition this week, and they had the best time. They bowled their hearts out, cheered each other on and competed amazingly.
Now, moving to the field. The Blue Devil football team brought home a district win from Strayhorn last Thursday. We were only up 16–14 at the half, but the second half was a different story. It all started with a kickoff return right after halftime, and from there the Blue Devils put up 36 points in the second half alone to finish on top, 52–20. The team has been fighting through a tough stretch, but that win locked in our spot in the playoffs and gave everybody a big boost of confidence. Next up, the Blue Devils host East Union Thursday night at Bobby Clark Field for Senior Night. Come out and fill the stands!
Over in the CTE building, learning went hands-on. First-year Law and Public Safety students took their first solo drone flights, months after getting certified back in August — a real payoff for all that groundwork. Their second-year classmates put the PASS method to the test, learning the steps to safely put out a fire with a fire extinguisher. It’s the kind of skill you hope you never need, but the kind you’re glad to know you have. Our Early Childhood classes kicked off their field trips, heading out to Faith Learning and Cotton Candy Kids to see the profession up close. For students thinking about a future working with little ones, there’s no better way to learn than getting in the room and doing it.
Coach Howland also gave a well-earned shoutout to Kylan Armstrong, our October “You’re Crushin’ It” Award winner, recognized for the kind of character that makes the halls better for everyone.
Between report cards for the first semester, college applications and midterms to study for, school has been very busy lately. Water Valley High School has been busy in the best way, and it will continue to be. I can’t wait to see y’all next week for another issue of Inside the Blue and White!
