Charlie E. Baird
PADUCAH, KY: Charlie E. Baird, 80 years old, died April 28, 2007, in Paduach, Kentucky of a heart attact. He was a former resident of Water Valley.
Mr. Baird is survived by his present wife and children; and two brothers, Richard Baird of Water Valley and Frank Baird of Florence, Kentucky.
Funeral services and burial were in Paducah on May 1, 2007.
Charles Dickey
BARTLETT, TN: Charles “Dave” Dickey, 61, of Bartlett, Tennessee, passed away on April 4, 2007, in Baptist Memoiral Hospital, Memphis.
He was retired from the trucking industry and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
Funeral service was held in Family Funeral Care on Summer Avenue, Memphis, at ten o’clock Friday, April 6, 2007. Burial was in Memphis Memory Gardens.
He is survived by: his wife of 18 years, Nina Dickey; three daughters, Denna Maples of Oxford, Jamie Atchison of Conway, Arkansas, and Sharon Childers of Independence; three sons, David Dickey of Oxford, Larry Simpson of Bartlett, and Darrell Simpson of Memphis; his parents, Raymond and Helen Dickey of Water Valley; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Target House.
Raymond David Dickey
WATER VALLEY: Raymond David Dickey, 91, husband of Helen Woodall Dickey, passed away on April 26, 2007, in Baptist Memoiral Hospital—North Mississippi at Oxford.
Mr. Dickey was a life long reasident of Water Valley. He was a son of the late Mack Dickey and Nettie Tutor Dickey. He served in the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II and received a Purple Heart. He worked as an electrician and a plumber for many years and was well known and loved by many residents of Water Valley. He was a member of Camp Ground Baptist Church.
Funeral service for Mr. Dickey was held at two o’clock in the afternoon Sunday, April 29, 2007, in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home, with Rev. Troy Hurdle and Bro. Billy Childs presiding. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery, with Richard Carlisle, Billy Gene Moorhead, Billy Stark, Billy Maples, Horace Hardy, and Jeff Tubbs serving as pallbearers.
Besides his wife of 68 years, he leaves: one daughter, Catherine Raley of Bartlett, Tennessee; four grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and a granddaughter by choice. He was preceded in death by one son, David Dickey; four sisters, Maxine Tubbs, Pert Early, Leona Wilbourn, and Lorrine Hammons; and two brothers, Roy Dickey and Charlie Earl Dickey.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Camp Ground Baptist Church in Water Valley.
Syble Inez Dickey
WATER VALLEY: Syble Inez Dickey, age 81, of Water Valley passed away in Yalobusha General Hospital Tuesday evening, April 24, 2007.
A daughter of the late Robert Chester and Birdie Zelma Dickey Sutherland, she was married to Orvil “Doke” Dickey and was a member of Mt. Liberty Church in Calhoun County. Mrs. Dickey was retired from Holley Carburetor in Water Valley.
Funeral services were held at Mt. Liberty Church Friday, April 27, 2007, at two o’clock in the aftenroon, with Rev. Ed Barlow officiting.. Burial followed in the church cemetery, with Jason Sharp, Jonathan Sharp, Jamie Bell, Jeremy Dickey, Andrew Farmer and Corey Dickey as pallbearers. Honorary pallbeares were great-grandsons, Carson Sharp, Colin Sharp, and Matt May.
In addition to her loving husband, “Doke” Dickey, Mrs. Dickey is survived by: her children and their spouses, Grady and Jeanette Dickey of Southlake, Texas, Steve Dickey of Water Valley, and Janice and Charles Sharp of Water Valley; one sister, Ruby Barlow of Water Valley; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Mrs. Dickey in death, in addition to her parents, were two brothers, Toy Sutherland and Russell Sutherland.
Fay Sims Magee
WATER VALLEY: Fay Sims Magee, age 93, of Water Valley died Tuesday morning, May 1, 2007, in Yalobusha County Nursing Home.
A daughter of the late William G. and Zelma Hendrick Sims, she was retired from Big Yank Corporation in Water Valley. Fay was a member of the Church of Christ of Water Valley. She spent her life raising her four children and caring for her grandchildren.Fay was a quiet, gently lady who will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know her.
Services will be held Thursday, May 3, 2007, at two o’clock in the afternoon in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home. Visitation will begin one hour prior to and continue until the service at the funeral home.
Surivivors include: her four children, Joyce M. Dawson of Byhalia, Lynn M. Morris of Water Valley, Eddie Magee of Water Valley, and Mike Magee of Troy, Texas; nine grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Fay was preceded in death by her two sisters, Jewel Frazier and Katie Sullivan.
Virginia Cofer Norwood
FOXWORTH: Virginia Cofer Norwood, 79, died Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at her home.
Funeral services were held at two o’clock in the afternoon Sunday, April 29, 2007, in Breeland Chapel at Canton. Burial was in the Canton Cemetery. Breeland Funeral Home in Canton had charge of arrangements.
A native of Coffeeville, Mrs. Norwood had lived in Foxworth for a number of years. she was a member of First Baptist Church in Water Valley.
Survivors include: sons, Leo Norwood of Canton, Michael A. Norwood of Byhalia, William W. Norwood of Carthage; a daughter, Flora Norwood Britt of Ashland; eleven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
