WATER VALLEY: Lenore Sue Dorsett, age 86, passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2007, in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Mississippi at Oxford. She was a retired sign painter and was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
Funeral services for Mrs. Dorsett were held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2007, in Seven Oaks Funeral Home. Rev. Carl McClain, pastor of First Assembly of God in Water Valley, officiated the service. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery with Joe Thomas, Marshall Brown, Brian Dickey, and Jacob Brown serving as pallbearers.
Survivors include a son, Falace Dodd Dickey of Hernando; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding Mrs. Dorsett in death are: her parents, T. O. and Pearl Poyner Dorsett; husbands, Everett Starks and Edward Dickey; a son, Donald Edward Dickey; a sister, Lillian Dorsett; and two brothers, Ovie and Viron Dorsett.
WATER VALLEY: Mable Nadean “Dean” Shepherd McCullar, age 76, of Water Valley died in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Mississippi at Oxford on Wednesday, June 13, 2007.
She was retired from Big Yank Corporation and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church of Water Valley.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 15, in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home, with Reverend Jim Ellis officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley.
Mrs. McCullar is survived by her daughter, Teresa Sellers Tutor of Water Valley; a son, William Allen Tutor of Courtland; sisters, Mavis Shepherd Wallace of Water Valley and Carolyn Shepherd Rowsey of Grenada; brothers, Shirley Shepherd of Killen, Texas and Billy Shepherd of Crenshaw, four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Bert Clay and Emma Lee Harbin Shepherd; sons, Jerry Wayne Tutor and James Dewitt Tutor; a daughter, Phyllis Ann Tutor; and one sister, Dorothy Hawkins.
WATER VALLEY: Mrs. Faye Ward Simpson, age 74, of Water Valley died at the Yalobusha County Nursing Home Friday, June 15, 2007, following a lengthy illness. Faye was the widow of Charles Simpson, who preceded her in death in October of 2005.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Water Valley. Mrs. Simpson was a sales clerk at Turnage Drug Store for 30 years and always greeted customers with a warm smile.
Funeral services were held in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, with Dr. Billy Ray Stonestreet and Bro. Barry Dickerson officiating.
Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery, where she was laid to rest beside her loving husband. Serving as pallbearers were Bartus Guarr, Gordon Simpson, Chad Wrenn, Gary Williamson, Hank Riddick, and Tom Byars. Bennie Turnage was an honorary pallbearer.
Survivors include: a daughter, Dena Simpson Windham, and her husband, Ronnie, of Oxford; two grandsons; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ralph Ward of Greenville, South Carolina and Mickey Ward of Wilmington, North Carolina.
In addition to her husband, Fay was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest and Lula Pigg Ward, and one brother, Earnest Ward.
BOLIVAR, TN: Mary Dean Taylor, age 95, formerly of Water Valley, passed away in Bolivar, Tennessee at the Bolivar General Hospital on Tuesday, June 12, 2007.
A daughter of the late John Miller and Beulah Crockett Miller, she was a stepdaughter of the late Lulla Taylor. She was a domestic worker.
The funeral service was held at noon Wednesday, June 16, in Seven Oaks Funeral Home. Interment followed at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Water Valley.
Mrs. Taylor is survived by two daughters, Bobbie Avant and Delorise Turner, both of Bolivar, TN; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, include her husband, Fred Taylor, Sr.; a sister, Lucille Miller; and brothers, Charlie Miller and Lawrence Miller.
WATER VALLEY: Mrs. Arcie Brister Wood, age 95, of Water Valley died Saturday, June 16, 2007, in Yalobusha General Hospital.
A daughter of the late John W. Brister and Betty Brister, she was married to the late Freddie Earl Wood, who died September 30, 2002. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Water Valley. Mrs. Wood was a retired beautician and a housewife.
The funeral service was held at Seven Oaks Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 18. Interment followed in Salem Cemetery in Yalobusha County, with Gerald Rippee, John Wood, Tommy McCain, Sammy Edwards, David Wood, and Travis Brooks serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers were Mike Redwine, Dr. Joe Walker, Ray Eubanks and Harvey Milam.
Mrs. Wood is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
