Lilla Dever

  COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO: Lilla Dever grew up as Lilla Josephine Colson in Water Valley, one of five children. She graduated in 1936 from Millsaps College in languages and library Science. She played the ukulele in college, and piano for many years. While teaching high school in Shaw, she met and married John Dever. They were stationed in Denver, Colorado during World War II, and moved to Mississippi, then to Arlington, Texas, where they raised three active girls, Rebecca, Lilla, and Susan.

  In 1956, they moved to Colorado Springs and opened an automotive upholstery business. In between long work days she baked mountains of Christmas cookies for cutomers and friends and enjoyed family camping trips. Lilla was active for many yeras at First Methodist Church. In 1985 they retired and moved to Myron Stratton Home. John passed away in 1998. At ninety-two Lilla was always on the go, happily enjoying her friends and large extended family, good restaurants, mystery novels, and the hummingbirds on her porch.

  She is survived by her three daughters; two sisters, Jane Courtney and Dorothy Morris; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

  In addition to her husband, John, Lilla Jo was preceded in death by her sister, Eleanor Baddley, and brother, James Melbourne Colson.

  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Myron Stratton Home. On the memo line of the check wirte: Lilla Go Fund. Mailing address: Myron Stratton Home, 555 Gold Pass Heights, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80906. The Memorial Fund will be used for Senior Activities at Myron Stratton.

Jesse Crawford

  WATER VALLEY: Jesse Crawford, 54, died Saturday, November 24, 2007, in Yalobusha County Nursing Home.

  Born October 17, 1954, he was a son of the late Albert and Lemoa Vann Crawford. He was also preceded in death by: a sister, Mary Lousie Rucker; two brothers, Jesse Lee Crawford and Charlie Crawford. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the House of Prayer Church Of God In Christ in Water Valley. He enjoyed talking to people about God and His Word. He was employed by the City of Water Valley until he became unable to work.  He was educated in the Water Valley School System. He was the husband of Teresa Crawford of Water Valley.

  The funeral service will be held Sunday, December 2, 2007 in the House of Prayer C.O.G.I.C., with Elder Willingham officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Water Valley. Eddie Robinson Funeral Directors has charge of arrangements.

  He is survived by: his wife, Teresa Crawford of Water Valley; three daughters, Cortney Crawford, Tanisha Crawford and Ya’Shunda Rowsey, all of Water Valley;  five sisters, Shirley Horton of Water Valley, Isabell (Frank) Morgan and Elizabeth (Emmit) Hudson of Pensacola, FL, Martha (Jesse) Flemming of Joliet, IL, and Jeanette Hervey of Detroit, MI; five brothers, John Crawford of Water Valley, Leo Crawford and Tommy Crawford, both of Joliet, IL, Frank (Charlotte) Crawford  of Tunica, and Robert (Ruthie) Crawford of Charleston; his father-in-law, Amos Rowsey of Water Valley; two sisters-in-law; ten brothers-in-law; and a  host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
