Hattie Armfield
OXFORD: Ms. Hattie Armfield, 98, of Oxford died in the Tri-Lakes Medical Center at Batesville Monday, January 7, 2008.
Services were Friday, January 11, in Christ Temple C.M.E. Church at Oxford, with Rev. E. D. Goliday officiating. Burial was in Mt. Vernon Cemetery at Abbeville. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge of arrangements.
Born July 7, 1910, in Oxford, Ms. Armfield was the daughter of the late W. H. and Nancy Perry Watters. She was a retired service operator of the U.S. Navy. Ms. Armfield was a member of Christ Temple C.M.E. Church.
Ms. Armfield is survived by: a nephew, Chester Hawkins, Jr. of Water Valley; a great-niece, Lynette Johnson of Oxford, who cared for her; and a great-nephew, Rev. E. D. Goliday of Oxford, who cared for her.
Lorine Buckley
BATESVILLE: Ms. Lorine Buckley, age 76, of Batesville died in Methodist University Hospital in Memphis Sunday, January 6, 2008.
Services were held Saturday, January 12, in Armstrong Street Church of God at Batesville, with Rev. Christopher Townsend officiating. Burial was in Batesville Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge of arrangements.
Born July 3, 1931, in Charleston, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Ella Smith. She was a retired assembly line worker for Kimball International. Ms. Buckley was a member of New Destiny M.B. Church in Batesville.
Survivors include: two sons, John Buckley of Chicago and Harvey Buckley of Boston, Massachutes; two daughters, Arbie Jo Buckley of New York and Viola Buckley House of Oakland; two sisters, Cora Barnes of Grenada and Nettie Billingsley of Chicago; 19 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Katy Kirby Skelton
MOSS POINT: Katy Kirby Skelton, age 86, a resident of Moss Point, died Monday, January 7, 2008, in Moss Point.
Mrs. Skelton was a native of Woodland and was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover Cleveland Kirby and Yancy Springer Kirby; brothers, Robert Hugh Kirby, Franklin Kirby, and Carl Kirby; and her eldest son, David Austin Skelton.
Survivors include: children, Barbara Skelton Thomas and husband, James, of Water Valley and Warren Trent Skelton and his wife, Joyce, of Moss Point; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning Friday, January 11, in Mount Pleasant Cemetery at Mantee. Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
