Mary Goodnight

WATER VALLEY: Mary Avant Goodnight, 82, died Monday, March 10, 2008, in Yalobusha General Hospital at Water Valley.

  Born November 24, 1925, in Pine Valley, she was a daughter of the late Clemons Joshua and Zerelda Flemmings Cade. Mrs. Goodnight was a member of the Water Valley Church of Christ and an active member of the Homemaker’s Club.

  The visitation will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2008, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Seven Oaks Funeral Home at Water Valley. The funeral service will be held Thursday, March 13, 2008, at two o’clock in the afternoon in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks, with Bro. David Floyd presiding. The committal will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery at Water Valley.

  Survivors include: two sons, William (Sonny) Aubrey Avant, Jr. of Water Valley and Harry C. Avant of Olive Branch; a sister, Betty Sue Cade Guillroy of Kinder, LA; two brothers, Clinton Joshua Cade of Water Valley and Walter F. Cade of Clinton, MD; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

  Along with her parents, Mrs. Goodnight was preceded in death by her husbands, William Aubrey Avant, Sr. and Bernard Goodnight; two sisters, Eunice Bedwell Greenhall and Mattie Lou Cade Cole; and three brothers, Z. L. Bedwell, Robert Lee Cade, and Mish A. Cade.

 

Geraldine Shaw

COFFEEVILLE: Mrs. Geraldine (Jeri) Bishop Shaw, 72 of Coffeeville passed away Saturday, March 8, 2008, in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Mississippi at Oxford.

  Mrs. Shaw was born July 10, 1935 in Forest. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Coffeeville, where she had served as senior citizen’s director, flower chairman and was a former choir member. She was also a member of the Coffeeville Women’s Progressive Club and a former board member of the Yalobusha County Library Board. She was a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ and an encouragement to everyone she met.

  Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 11, 2008, in First Baptist Church at Coffeeville with Rev. Bryan Bailey, Rev. Truman Scarborough and Dr. Daniel Hathorne officiating. Interment followed in the Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery near Coffeeville, with Chris Grillis, III, Chris Grillis, IV, David Kyle Grillis, Baynard Shane Grillis, Robert Kale Baylor, and Bubba Shaw as pallbearers Garner-Harper Funeral Home in Coffeeville had charge of arrangements.

  Survivors include: her husband, Clyde Eugene Shaw of Coffeeville; a sister, Sheila Bishop Grillis of Brandon; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Singleton and Retha Fancher Bishop.
