Anthony Charles Barnes

WATER VALLEY – Anthony Charles Barnes, husband, father, son, brother, pastor, friend, died Thursday, June 26, 2008, in Jackson.

  Services for Rev. Barnes was held at eleven o’clock in the morning, Tuesday, July 1, in the Yazoo City High School Auditorium. Burial was in Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery at Satartia. Shaffer & Collins Funeral Home of Yazoo City had charge of arrangements.

  He was the pastor and overseer of Spring Hill North M.B. Church in Water Valley and the Mt. Pleasant Church in Duck Hill. He was a minister of the Gospel for over 13 years. Rev. Barnes had committed his life to building, encouraging, shepherding and blessing God’s people, whether through preaching, service, an encouraging word, gifts, laughter, or just that bright smile. “A moment with ‘the Bishop’ was a moment of impartation from the Lord,” stated a member of the Spring Hill North Church Family.

  Mr. Barnes was also the Assistant Superintendent at Water Valley High School.

  He leaves to cherish his memory and continue his legacy: his wife, Terri Barnes; one daughter, Natanja Christian Barnes; his mother, Gladys Prayse Barnes; one brother, Rod (Bridget) Barnes of Atlanta, Georgia; a sister, Carolyn Jones of Raymond; and three nephews.

  He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Ray Barnes.

 

Daniel Joseph Lyons

CORTEZ, CO – Memorial Mass for longtime Cortez, Colorado resident Dr. Daniel Joseph Lyons were held at ten o’clock in the Morning, Monday, June 30, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.

  Born January 8, 1932, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Dr. Lyons was a son of the late Paul L. and Pauline (Rheese) Lyons. He passed away Thursday, June 26, at the Vista Grande Inn in Cortez at the age of 76. He was also preceded in death by a son, Daniel Lyons. On June 7, 1952, Dr. Lyons married Eleanor Unfug in Boulder, Colorado. He was a proud member of the Colorado Veterinarian Medical Association and the Elks Lodge. For several years the Lyons Family were residents of Water Valley, where Dr. Lyons was a veterinarian for Mott’s Poultry.

  Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Lyons of Cortez; and children, Susan Lyons of Birmingham, Alabama, Richard Lyons of Greenley, Colorado, Michael W. Lyons of Cortez, Elizabeth Gifford and husband, John of Greenley and wife Erica, John Lyons of Steriling, Colorado, Samuel Lyons of Cortez, William Lyons of Cortez, and Amy Klyse and husband Bryan of Bailey, Colorado; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, William Sheehan and wife, Catherine of Tulsa.
