Clarence Criss Chandler
WATER VALLEY – Clarence Criss Chandler, 83, retired carpenter, died Sunday, July 20, 2008 at Graceland Care Center in Oxford. Service were held Tuesday, July 22, at 2 p.m. at Waller Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley. .
Clarence was a Deacon at Friendship Baptist Church in Water Valley, and he enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Chandler of Water Valley; three daughters, Kathy Melton of Oxford, Judy Chandler of Water Valley, and Amy Myles of Pearl; three sons, Gary Chandler of Oxford, Randy Chandler and Criss Chandler both of Water Valley,; a brother Ray Chandler of Bolton; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The family has asked that expressions of sympathy or memorial contributions in Mr. Chandler’s memory be made to Friendship Baptist Church in Water Valley.
Roland Clark
WATER VALLEY: Roland Clark, Sr., 89, died July 12, 2008.
Born September 26, 1918, in Calhoun City, Mr. Clark was a son of the late Will and Josephine Covington Clark. He confessed Christ at an early age and was a member of Chapel Hill M.B. Church. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Lena Mae Buford, October 8, 1950. They then moved to Kansas City to work and begin their family of five children. The family moved back to Water Valley in the late ‘60s. He was self-employed.
The funeral service was held at Noon on Thursday, July 17, 2008, in Chapel Hill M.B. Church, Water Valley, with Minister Inez Woodard officiating. Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Water Valley, with grandsons and nephews, Tremane McGee, Michael Clark, Matthew Clark, James Covington, Charles Cox, and Ronnell Drane, as pallbearers. Eddie Robinson & Son Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include: three sons, Roland Clark, Jr. and Ollie Clark, both of Water Valley, and Joe Clark of Savannah, Georgia; three daughters, Patricia Clark of Water Valley, Wanda Cass of Savannah, Georgia, and Martina Lewis of Oxford; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by Lena Mae Buford, his wife of 57 years, on May 20, 2008.
Mary Jane Edmonds Newman
WATER VALLEY – Mary Jane Edmonds Newman, age 81, died Friday, July 18, 2008, in Baptist Memorial Hospital—East in Memphis.
Born March 20, 1927, in Benton, Mrs. Newman was the only daughter of Charles King and Betty Irene Goforth Edmonds. She was retired from Big Yank in Water Valley and was a member of First Baptist Church of Water Valley.
Visitation from one until three o’clock in the afternoon Sunday, July 20, 2008, was followed by a funeral service in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home. Rev. Randy Bain, Rev. Hal Clark, and Rev. Keith Stevens officiated. The committal followed in Oak Hill Cemetery at Water Valley with Jeff Bell, Tim Bell, Lance Newman, Chad Newman, Daulton Newman, Matthew Newman, Jonathon Basler, and Brandon Smith serving as pallbearers. Mason Newman, Jeff Basler and Bill Hayles were honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Newman is survived by: three daughters, Jane Newman Shields (Carl) of Horn Lake, Jeannie Newman of Water Valley, and Bonnie Newman Basler (Randy) of Rural Retreat, Virginia; two sons, W. R. Newman (Barbara) of Water Valley and Mark Newman (Charlotte) of Eupora; a brother, Lamar Edmonds of Benton; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Newman, five brothers, Charles, David and Arthur Edmonds, and Robert and Willie Clayton (Keeter) Parker.
