Julia Ann Ford Thompson
SARDIS– Julia Ann Ford Thompson, age 75, died of heart failure Thursday, October 9, 2008, at her residence in Sardis.
Funeral services were held at two o’clock in the afternoon Sunday, October 12, 2008, in the Chapel of Wells Funeral Home in Sardis, with Rev. Clay Baker officiating. Burial was in the Black Jack Cemetery.
Mrs. Thompson was born in Water Valley August 9, 1933, to the late Riley Ford and Myrtice Cook Ford. She was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church in Courtland. Mrs. Thompson was a retired employee of Big Yank, Inc. of Water Valley. She was the widow of Ralph Thompson.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Ann Perkins Tapper of Pope; two sisters, Dorothy Gene Mixon of Courtland and Kay Ford Mettetal of Sardis; three brothers, Billy Ford of Water Valley, Boyd Ford and Sonny Ford, both of Courtland; one granddaughter; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Billy Dewell Walls
BRUCE – Billy Dewell Walls, 77, died at his home in Bruce Saturday, October 11, 2008.
Mr. Walls was born August 9, 1931 in the Old Field Community in Calhoun County. He was a retired farmer and trucker. He was also a member of the Old Field Methodist Church and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed gardening and woodcrafts as his hobbies. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Samuel and Stella Jane Blount Walls, two brothers, Oval Emil Walls and Robert Harrill Walls.
The funeral service was held at two o’clock in the afternoon Monday, October 13, in the Old Field Methodist Church in Bruce, with Rev. Jerry Smith and Rev. Dennis Dorris officiating. Parker Funeral Home of Bruce had charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Jason Jenkins, Ryan Jenkins, Derrick Walls, Jeremy Harris, Robbie Walls, and Shane Cook.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Jane Parker Walls of Bruce; five daughters, Lynne Walls Harris and Husband Floyd, Donna Walls Jenkins and Husband Ricky, Tonya Walls Camp and Husband Keith, Christie Blount and Wendy Walls, all of Bruce; two sons, Billy Wayne Walls of Bruce and Milton (Chuck) Walls and Wife Jeannie of Banner; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; Cousins Loomis and Betty Robertson; and two nieces.
OXFORD – Mr. Gary Watts, 61, a truck driver, died Friday, October 10, 2008 at Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi.
Mr. Watts was a lifelong resident of Lafayette County.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 13, at Waller Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Ken White officiating. Burial followed in Shipp Cemetery.
Mr. Watts is survived by his mother, Bertha Jane Fiew Watts of Water Valley; a daughter, Connie Hetrick of Thaxton; three sons, Mike Watts and Tommy Watts both of Oxford, and Tracy Watts of Huntsville, AL and fourteen grandchildren.
The family has asked that memorial contributions in Mr.Watts memory be made to Shipp Cemetery, c/o Nannette Sissell, 23541 Hwy 6 East, Batesville, MS 38606.
