Brittany Samatha Simmons

WATER VALLEY – Brittany Samantha Simmons, age 20, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2008.

  Born August 27, 1988 in Grenada, Brittany was a daughter of Charles Barry and Donna Stacey Simmons of Water Valley. She was a 2006 graduate of Water Valley High School and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Brittany worked as an associate at Wal-Mart in the Deli Department.

  The funeral service was held at two o’clock in the afternoon Monday, October 27, in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral  Home, with Rev. Robert Alexander and Rev. Fred Eakes officiating. The committal was in Turkey Creek Cemetery in Calhoun County.

  Survivors include her parents, Charles Barry and Donna Stacey Simmons of Water Valley; a brother, Carlton Brantley Simmons of Water Valley; grandparents, Charles Buddy and Bess Tubbs Simmons of Water Valley and Larry and Janice Stacey of Bruce; great-grandparents, Nathalene Dempsey of Oxford, Robert Livingston of Water Valley, and Dorothy Stacey of Water Valley.

  She was preceded in death by a grandmother, Blanche Stacey, and great-grandparents, Lloyd Eugene Simmons, H. E. Stacey, and Charles Dempsey.

 

Kathryn Denley Wells

WATER VALLEY – Kathryn Denley Wells, 89, passed away in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Mississippi, Oxford, on Tuesday, October 21, 2008.

  Born June 29, 1919, in Big Creek, Mrs. Wells had lived most of her life in Water Valley. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Water Valley for 63 years, where she sang in the choir, and enjoyed many other areas of service. She worked at Big Yank Manufacturing for 20 years and spent several years working at Webb’s Drug Store and Ray’s Department Store.

  The funeral service was held in First United Methodist Church at one o’clock in the afternoon Thursday, October 23, with Rev. Barry Dickerson officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery with Clay Ashford, Bill Larson, James Larson, Eddie Ray, Bennie Cole Taylor, and Melvin Ford serving as pallbearers. Binnie Turnage and Crip Tyler were honorary pallbearers. Seven Oaks Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

  Mrs. Wells is survived by two sons, David Denley Wells of Water Valley and Steven Page Wells of Nashville, Tennessee; one sister, Becky Martin of Jackson; three brothers, George Denley and Larry Denley, both of Coffeeville, and Jerry Denley of Grenada; and six grandchildren.

  Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Al Dean Wells, II in 1970; two sons, Al Dean “Bully Dean” Wells, III, and Mike Wells; one sister, Margaret Langham; and two brothers, John Robert Denley and Paul Denley.

 

Alberta Wilbourn

WATER VALLEY – Alberta Louise Haire Wilbourn, age 96, of Water Valley passed away Saturday, October 25, 2008, in Yalobusha General Hospital at Water Valley.

  Born April 12, 1912, in Vandale, Arkansas, she was a daughter of the late Presley and Cora Cook Haire. She was a homemaker, a former Pink Lady, and a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

  The funeral service was held at two o’clock in the afternoon Tuesday, October 28, in Seven Oaks Funeral Home, with Rev. Calvin Miller presiding. The committal was held in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, south of Water Valley, with Johnny Blackwood, Craig Stewart, Steven Stewart, Rusty Wilbourn, Alan Wilbourn, James Wilbourn, Tyronne Wilbourn, and Kevin Wilbourn serving as pallbearers.

  Mrs. Wilbourn is survived by a daughter, Mary Jane Stewart and her husband, Bill; two sons, Marvin Dale Wilbourn, and his wife, Arlene, and Sammy Lee Wilbourn, and his wife, Patsy, all of Water Valley; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.

  She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Johnnie Marvin Wilbourn, on February 21, 2008; two sisters, Pearline Haire Brown and Elzora Jacobs; and one brother, Oscar Lee Haire.

 

Jessie Mildred Riley

WATER VALLEY: Mrs. Jessie Mildred Riley, 88, died October 25, 2008, in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Mississippi, Oxford.

    The funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 29, at one o’clock in the afternoon in Sanders Chapel M.B. Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Eddie Robinson Fuenral Home in charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Riley was born September 16, 1920. She was a former employee of Big Yank Corporation in Water Valley, but was disabled. She was a member of Sanders Chapel M.B. Church.

    No survivors were listed.
