Raymond and
Virginia Holland
COFFEEVILLE– Raymond and Virginia Holland passed away November 5, 2008. The devoted couple was married for 62 years and died within 12 hours of each other due to natural causes.
A joint funeral service was held at First Baptist Church, Coffeeville, on Saturday, November 8, at eleven o’clock in the morning.
Mr. and Mrs. Holland are survived by: two sons, Danny R. Holland (Linda) of Batesville, and Greg R. Holland (Debbie) of Carriere; granddaughters, Dana, Kinney, Leigh Ann Holland, and Megan Holland. They have one deceased grandson, Lee Hanks Holland.
Mr. Holland was born in Hughes, Arkansas in 1922, to James and Bertha Holland. His family included ten children, with six surviving siblings. He served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. A 1948 graduate of Mississippi State College, his degree was in Ag Economics. He served 34 years as County Director of the ASCS Office in both Panola and Yalobusha Counties. As an active member of the Sardis Community, Mr. Holland was involved with the Chamber of Commerce and Lion’s Club. At Sardis First Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. His active membership at the time of his death was in First Baptist Church of Coffeeville.
Mrs. Holland was born in Water Valley in 1929 to Levarda and Hezzie Mae Purdy. She was a devoted homemaker, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Sardis Woman’s Club and Sardis First Baptist Church. Her active membership at the time of her death was in First Baptist Church of Coffeeville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 326 Ellsworth St., Memphis, TN 38111, in Ramond and Virginia Holland’s name.

Rev. Lee V. Matthews
COFFEEVILLE – Reverend Lee V. Matthews, Sr., age 52, died November 4, 2008, in Baptist East Hospital at Memphis.
He was born October 14, 1956. Rev. Matthews was the full time pastor of Hopewell M.B. Church.
Funeral services were held at eleven o’clock in the morning in the City Auditorium in Water Valley. Burial was in Sanders Chapel Cemetery, with Eddie Robinson Funeral Home, Grenada, in charge of arrangements.
