Helena Harrell Brinegar

AMORY – Helena Harrell Brinegar, 97, passed away Friday, December 12, 2008, in Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center at Amory after an extended illness.

    Born May 7, 1911 in Maumee, Indiana, Mrs. Brinegar was a daughter of the late Clarence and Lina Harrell. She lived in Water Valley for 40 years, before moving to Amory in 1996. She married Darrell Maxwell “D. M.” Brinegar on November 27, 1939. Mr. Brinegar was manager of Big Yank Corporation for many years and died in 1991. Mrs. Brinegar was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Water Valley for 40 years, before moving her membership to Meadowood Baptist Church in Amory. She was also a dedicated mother and grandmother.

    The funeral service was held at two o’clock in the afternoon Tuesday, December 16, in Henry Chapel at Seven Oaks Funeral Home at Water Valley, with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt and Bro. Hal Clark officiating. Burial was in Pinecrest Cemetery, south of Water Valley, with Bill Bates, Matthew Lewis, Byron Hurt, Josh Maxey, Joe Bagwell, and Tim Sutherland serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Joyner, Kenneth Latham, Paul Parker, Wilbur Todd, Gaylon King, Hubert Sanders, Chester Joyner, Ed Best, R. K. Peterson, Joe Harrell, and Max Harrell.

    In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brinegar was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, D. M. Brinegar; a son, Roger D. Brinegar; three brothers, Hanford, John, and Robert “Bob” Harrell; and two sisters, Lorene Shields and Lois Haynes.

    Survivors include a son, Jerry Ray Lewis (Maribeth) of Amory; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Buttross Brinegar of Hattiesburg; one sister, Frances Robertson of Bedford, Indiana; four grandchildren, Jerry Lewis (Rhonda), Betty Lewis Hurt, and Jane Lewis Maxey, all of Amory, and Brett Brinegar of Natchez; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Ola Odell Sansom

WATER VALLEY – Ola Odell Sansom, 95, passed away December 11, 2008, at her home in Water Valley.

    Born March 18, 1913, Mrs. Sansom was a daughter of the late Samuel Fred and Martha Ola Henderson Martin. She served 18 years as a secretary at First Baptist Church in Water Valley, where she was a faithful member. She was an avid gardener until the last few years.

    The funeral service was held Sunday, December 14, at two o’clock in the afternoon in Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home, with Dr. Randy Bain and Bro. David Freeman conducting the service. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley with several of her nephews serving as pallbearers.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Barrett Sansom; five brothers, Claudis Martin, Curtis Martin, Carlton Martin, Charles Martin, and S. F. Martin; one sister, Maifred Telthorst; and a granddaughter, Janet Koen.

    Survivors include a son, James A. “Sam” (Patricia) Sansom of Water Valley; five grandsons, James B. (Linda) Sansom of Missouri, Alex L. (Kimberly) Sansom of Missouri, John Bruce Sansom of Memphis, Thomas (Cynthia) Sansom of Missouri, and Gary Sansom of Batesville; ten great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Mozelle Tillman of Water Valley.
