Lynda Carol Dickey Blount

BRUCE – Mrs. Lynda Carol Dickey Blount of Bruce died May 6, 2009, at her home.

  Mrs. Blount, 61, was born June 11, 1947, in Mississippi. She was a graduate of Bruce High School. She was a former employee of United Chair and a member of Mt. Liberty Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nora Grace Newsom Dickey, and a son, Archie Parker.

  The funeral service was held at two o’clock in the afternoon Friday, May 8, in the Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Billy Hill officiating. Burial was in Mt. Liberty Cemetery, with Ramey Gill, Steven Jackson, Robert Earl Blount, Esteban Salinas, Scott Swords, Josh Cotton, Eric Parker, and Jeff Robertson serving as pallbearers.

  Survivors include her husband, Robert D. Blount of Bruce; three daughters, Angie Parker, Traci Salinas, and Carla Swords, all of Bruce; her father, Idee Dickey of Water Valley; three step-children, Robert E. Blount of Bruce, James D. Blount of Bozeman, Mont., and Robin Robertson of Calhoun City; three sisters, Peggy Carr, Polly Miles and Sandra Anglin, all of Memphis; one brother, Bobby Dickey of Grenada; seven grandchildren, Eric Parker, Josh Cotton, Archie Swords, Ashley Hubbard, Marissa Salinas, Haley Hubbard, and Cida Salinas; and 11 step-grandchildren.

 

Vira E. Tilson

WATER VALLEY – Vira E. Tilson, 72, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at her daughter’s residence in Water Valley.

  Born September 18, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Walter Hinze and Melinda May Goodwin Gibson. She made a career of nursing, a vocation she dearly loved. She delivered many babies and saved many lives throughout the years.

  The funeral service was held in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home at three o’clock in the afternoon Thursday, May 7, 2009, with Bro. Bobby Murphy officiating. Burial was in Magnolia Gardens in Charleston.

  Survivors include two daughters, Linda Kilgore of Water Valley and Carol Meeks of Charleston; one sister, Mary Dell Goldsby of Millington, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Michael Burns of Oxford, Jennifer Edwards of Holly Springs, Larry Hughes, Jr. of Oxford, and Christopher Hughes of Calhoun City; four great-grandchildren; and one nephew.

  Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Hinze Gibson, Jr. and Wallace Earl Gibson.
