Betty Jean Cosby Crogan
WATER VALLEY – Mrs. Betty Jean Cosby Crogan, 78, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2009, in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Mississippi at Oxford.
Born in Batesville, she was a daughter of the late Johnny and Lois Sturgis Cosby. She was an accounting clerk for Trailways for many years. Mrs. Crogan was a member of Sylva Rena Baptist Church in Water Valley.
The funeral service was held in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home on Friday, July 3, at two o’clock in the afternoon, with Rev. Calvin Miller officiating. The committal was held in Oak Hill Cemetery with Roy Vance, Danny Holland, Jordan Duncan, Travis Brooks, Ronnie Cosby, and Richard Walker serving as pallbearers. Edwin Bonner was an honorary pallbearer.
Mrs. Crogan is survived by her daughter-in-law, Teresa Crogan Eakin, and her husband, Vince, of Water Valley, and four grandcats.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Joseph Crogan; son, Michael Patrick Crogan; one sister; and one brother.
Princess Evelyn Harris
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Princess Evelyn Harris left this world on her journey to be with our heavenly Father, and her daughter, Princess, on the morning of June 28, 2009, at the age of 88 years, in Columbia, South Carolina.
During her life she was blessed, and was a blessing to many people. She was originally from Water Valley, and locally attended Everdale M.B. Church. After leaving Water Valley she lived in Chicago where she worked at L. Kerno Company for over 30 years as a warehouse worker, and supervisor. In Chicago she attended Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a member for over 25 years. She also lived for extended years in Rock Island, Ill. and in Havelock, North Carolina, where she attended Cherry Point Church of Christ and visited the Havelock Senior Center on a regular basis. She had a unique way with words, and could often be heard saying, “Just put it in the Lord’s hands”. She never met a stranger, only friends that she was seeing for the first time.
She was preceded in death by: daughter, Princess C. McClendon; her mother and father, Carolyn and Mathew Brown; sisters, Ruby and Bennie Faye; brothers, Ben, Robert, and John.
Survivors include one sister, Margaret Kelly of Rock Island, Illinois; three grandchildren, Anthony H. McClendon, and wife, Patricia, Florence D. America, and husband, Rick, and Dorthea Watkins, and husband, Chris; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Jimmy Russell
WATER VALLEY – Jimmy Russell, 58, passed away Monday, July 6, 2009, at his residence in Water Valley.
Born in Clarksdale, Mr. Russell was a son of the late Marlin Sr., and Nellie Mooneyham Russell. He worked at BorgWarner in Water Valley and retired after 31 years of service. He also served in the United States Army.
A graveside service will be held in Pine Crest Memorial Gardens, south of Water Valley, on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at ten o’clock in the morning, with Rev. Larry Kilgore presiding.
Mr. Russell is survived by his wife, Stacey C. Russell of Water Valley; two sons, Michael Kevin Russell of Batesville, and Timothy Scott Russell of Water Valley; three step-daughters, Lacey Harris, Brittney Harris, and Terri Lynn Harris, all of Water Valley; daughter-in-law, Donna Russell of Water Valley; four grandchildren, Jacob Devin (Russell) King, Harley Chyenne Russell, Michael Logan Russell, and Landon Gage Russell; five sisters, Juanita Parks, Brenda Brock, and Glenda Clark, all of Batesville, Ruby Robertson of Lambert, and Shirley Stewart of Water Valley; and three brothers, Marlin Russell, Jr. of Oakland, Larry Russell of Marks, and James Russell of Batesville.
