WATER VALLEY – Mary Harmon, age 71, died at her residence in Water Valley on July 7, 2009.
Born December 25, 1937, in Pontotoc, she was a daughter of the late Leroy and Verlon Britt Davidson. Mrs. Harmon was retired from Big Yank Corporation and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Services were held at two o’clock in the afternoon Thursday, July 9, in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home, with Bro. James Edwards officiating. Burial followed in Bethel Cemetery in Yalobusha County with Robert Doolin, Michael Houpt, Phillip Carr, Bubby Reeves, Cliff Reeves, Steve Massey and Kevin Chandler serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Samantha Hernandez and Brittney Chandler.
Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Appleton of Oxford, Tami Reeves of Coffeeville, and Joan Melton of Batesville; nine sisters, Ruby Maddox of Carlsbad, N. M., Betty Bagley and Shirley Howe, both of Poterville, Calif., Linda Parnell of Longview, Texas, Alice Peters of Omaha, Neb., Alice Gamblin of Tyler, Texas, Carolyn McQuilliams of Iuka, Jimmie Allen and Johnnie Hopkins, both of Pontotoc; brothers, David Davidson and Randall Davidson, both of Poterville, Calif., Michael Washington of Water Valley, Eugene Washington of Houlka, Glen Washington of Pontotoc, and Wayne Washington of Tupelo; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Boyce Watson; a son, Steve Watson; one sister, Betty McMasters; and two brothers, Leon Washington and James Russell Washington.
Bobby Charles Melton
WATER VALLEY – Bobby Charles Melton, age 43, died Thursday, July 9, 2009, in the Calhoun Health Services at Calhoun City.
Born March 7, 1966, in Charleston, he was the son of Luther Ralph Melton and Lillie Pearl Jackson Melton.
Survivors include a daughter, Devon Raye Russell of Nebraska; a brother, Luther Roy Melton, and a sister-in-law, Vickey Melton, of Water Valley, two nieces and two nephews.
Bro. Bobby Murphree conducted services at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, in North Shady Grove Church of God near Cascilla. Radford Winters, pianist and soloists, provided the sacred music. Interment was in Ashland Cemetery, near Cascilla, with Womble Funeral Home of Charleston in charge of arrangements.
Frances B. Simpson
MEMPHIS – Frances B. Simpson, 92, died Monday, July 6, 2009, at Allen Morgan Health Center in Memphis.
Mrs. Simpson was born and reared in Water Valley. She was a daughter of the late Bartlett and Lois Walker Boydston. She was retired from Edison Bros. Shoes and was a member of Audubon Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Simpson, a daughter, Jimmie Gail Simpson, and two brothers, Jim Boydston and Robert “Spud” Boydston.
Survivors include a son, Robert Greg Simpson of Hernando; two grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 10, at 11:30 a.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home in the Fireside Chapel. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
