Albert Charles Benz

TUCSON, ARIZ. – Albert Charles Benz died February 4, 2010, in Tucson, Ariz.  He was born August 25, 1949, in Bessemer County, Alabama, was a son of the late Joseph and Eleanor Benz. His father died of leukemia when he was 17 months old.

    His mother took he and his brother, Todd, who is four years older, to north Mississippi to be near his maternal grandparents, and other family members. His grandfather died when he was five years old and then grandmother lived with the family from time to time. He was in school at Water Valley with the same classmates for all his school years. He was a member of the Water Valley Church of Christ. He earned a BAE in Education, with a minor in humanities from the University of Mississippi. He also had 28 hours of graduate work from Ole Miss and the Tucson Campus of Northern Arizona University in counseling and a minor in alcohol and drug counseling. He worked in the El Tovar Hotel at Grand Canyon, beginning in June of 1990, then held other jobs, before coming back to teaching.

    He is survived by his son, Robert Benz, and his brother, Todd Benz.

    A memorial service may be held in Water Valley later this year.
