Closure Expands On Hwy. 32 Bridge Project

Hot Work – Construction workers smooth out fresh asphalt in mid-90 temperatures Monday afternoon on Highway 32 East. Three bridges were replaced in this section which runs from just east of County Road 99 to just east of County Road 223. An additional 2000 feet of road is scheduled to be blocked off beginning June 28.

Road Work – The arrow points to the section of Hwy. 32 East scheduled to be closed June 28 as bridge replacement work continues. Several county roads provide alternative routes for local traffic including CR 99, CR 220, and CR 124 to the south and CR 123 and CR 122 that connects to Hwy. 315 East.

After the closing, residents living in the closed section will be allowed to travel on CR 223 as this car is about to do.

WATER VALLEY – Another section of Hwy. 32 East is about to be closed as construction continues on a $3,184,900 bridge replacement project.

An additional 2,000 feet will be blocked off June 28 beginning just east of County Road 223, according to Johnny Francis of Glasgow Construction Company. Residents living in the closed section will be allowed to travel on CR 223.

Other local traffic will have to continue to take country roads to get around the work including CR 99, CR 220, and CR 124 to the south and CR 123 and CR 122 that connects to Hwy. 315 East.

The estimated completion date for the five-bridge project is February of 2011.

Money for the bridgework is part of $1.5 billion in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds made available to Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood under the TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) Discretionary Grants.

The grants are for capital investments in surface transportation and will help modernize our nation’s infrastructure, Secretary LaHood said.
