George Scott Gilchrist

WATER VALLEY–George Scott Gilchrist, age 62, died November 26, 2010, at his son’s home in Water Valley.

    He was born in Chicago, Ill. and was the son of the late George and Martha Gilchrist. He served in the United States Navy for more than 21 years. After retiring from the Navy, he drove a truck for many years.

    The family will be holding a memorial service for Mr. Gilchrist at a later time. Seven Oaks Funeral Home of Water Valley has charge of arrangements.

    Mr. Gilchrist was preceded in death by his wife, Debbie Thomas Gilchrist. He is survived by one daughter, Sherry Ann Gilchrist of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sons, Paul Sutton of Jacksonville, Fla., Donald Scott (Melissa) Gilchrist of Jacksonville, Fla., and Michael Lewis (Victoria) Gilchrist of Water Valley.

 
David J. Jones

WATER VALLEY—David J. Jones, age 80, died Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at his home in Water Valley.

   Born June 19, 1930, in Lafayette County, Mr. Jones was a son of the late Lemuel Baxter and Exor Carothers Jones. He was a master carpenter and was retired from the City of Memphis. He was a veteran and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Jones was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and he loved his family. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Water Valley.

    The funeral service was held at eleven o’clock in the morning, Saturday, November 27, in Seven Oaks Funeral Home with Dr. Randy Bain and Bro. Doug Meadows officiating. Interment was in the Camp Ground Cemetery.

    Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Russell Jones of Water Valley; three sons, Mark D. (Sherry) Jones of Faulkner, Todd Russell (Paula Ann) Jones of Lakeland, Tenn., and Walter (Lisa Leann) Jones of Memphis; one brother, Baxter (Mary Lou) Jones of Water Valley; twelve grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Nollie Howell and Peggy Jones.

Clay Allen McCammon

WATER VALLEY—Clay Allen McCammon, age 47, died Tuesday, November 23, 2010, in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Mississippi at Oxford.

    Born June 3, 1963, in Memphis, he was a son of William Edward and Dorothy Jean Head McCammon of Water Valley. He was a member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church and he loved listening to music.

     The funeral service was held at two o’clock in the afternoon Friday, November 26, in Turkey Creek Baptist Church with Bro. Forest Poindexter officiating. Interment followed in the Turkey Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with James McCammon, Jamie McCammon II, Chris McCammon, Eddie McCammon, Bobby Goodwin, Craig Goodwin, and Jonathan McCammon serving as pallbearers. Dorian Howell served as tissue bearer. Seven Oaks Funeral Home of Water Valley had charge of arrangements.

    Clay is survived by his parents, William Edward and Dorothy Jean McCammon; three brothers, James (Shirley) McCammon, Mike (Glenda) McCammon, and Eddie (Trish) McCammon, all of Water Valley; and one sister, Alma (Bobby) Goodwin of Water Valley.
