Yalobusha Historical Society Minutes – Dec. 15, 2011

COFFEEVILLE – The Yalobusha Historical Society met December 15 in its headquarters at the old Presbyterian Church in Coffeeville. Mike Worsham called the meeting to order and welcomed guests and members.
Stelloise Basinger presented a published listing of the graves at Broom Cemetery. The publication is the second publication listing the people buried at the cemetery. Profit from sales of the first publication was used to build a cemetery fence.
The YHS board recommended to the members to move the annual meeting from January until March. Mike Ayers made a motion to accept the recommendation, and Opal Wright seconded the motion. YHS members adopted the motion unanamiously.
The devotional, “Love was born at Christmas,” was given by Julia Fernandez, and she, also, spoke a prayer, “Peace on Earth.”
Alma Moorman read “Connie’s and Willie’s Prayer” by Sophie P. Snow.
Julia introduced Rev. Hal Hall, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Coffeeville. Hal returned the YHS members to the era of Elvis Presley. Through Hal, the YHS relived the music of Elvis – “White Christmas,” “Santa, Bring My Baby Back to Me,” “Peace in the Valley,” and “Here Comes Santa Clause” were among the songs presented.
“How Great Thou Art” received a standing ovation.
In conclusion, Hal presented his Elvis favorite, “If I Can Dream.”
However, Elvis did not leave the building. He stayed for refreshments in the fellowship hall.
