Lena Miller “Lee” Colson

OXFORD—Lena Miller “Lee” Colson, age 91, died Thursday, September 6, 2012, in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Miss-issippi at Oxford.
  Born July 31, 1921, in Greenwood, Mrs. Colson was a daughter of the late Robert and Lena Aron Miller. She enjoyed music and played first chair clarinet in her high school and college bands. She served as a SPAR in the United Stated Coast Guard during World War II and was stationed in Florida. Lee was an expert bridge player and belonged to several bridge clubs. She was employed as secretary for First Congregational Church in Needham, Mass., and as a secretary in the Needham school system. Lee loved the Lord and her church family and was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Water Valley.
  Visitation was held Tuesday, September 11, from 2-2:45 p.m. in Seven Oaks Funeral Home at Water Valley. A graveside service followed at 3 p.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery at Water Valley, with Rev. Harold Spraberry officiating.
  Survivors include two sons, James M. Colson, III (Barbara) of Water Valley and Douglas S. Colson (Catarina) of Franklin, Mass.; and six grandchildren, Kelly McCullough, Scott Hudspeth, Nicholas Colson, Gianna Colson, Jamie Colson, and Evan Colson.
  In addition to her parents, Lee was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James M. Colson, Jr.; a daughter, Mary (Leigh) McCullough; a sister, Mary Suratt, and her brother, Oscar Miller.

Jane Colson Courtney

GREENWOOD – Mrs. Jane Colson Courtney, 89, formerly of Water Valley, died Wednesday Sept. 5, 2012 at Golden Age Nursing Home in Greenwood. 
    Services were held Sunday, September 9, at First Baptist Church of Water Valley with interment in Oak Hill cemetery. Dr. Randy Bain and Dr. Jim Phillips officiated.
    A native of Water Valley, Mrs. Courtney was born on April 15, 1923 to the late J. M. “Sonny” and Mayme Stevenson Colson.
    She was a member of North Greenwood Baptist Church and a former member of First Baptist Church of Greenwood and First Baptist Church of Water Valley.  Mrs. Courtney was a longtime resident of Water Valley, prior to moving to Greenwood eight years ago.
    Pallbearers were grandsons Jim Beasley, Chris Couch, David Couch, Jason Courtney and great-grandsons, Andrew Felder and Tyler Tyre.
    Mrs. Courtney was preceded in death by a daughter, Eloise Courtney Couch.
    She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Courtney Schilling and her husband, Doug, of Magnolia; a son, Charles Courtney and his wife, Kay, of Greenwood; a sister, Dorothy Morris of Long Beach, California,  eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren .
    The family requests that memorials be made to North Greenwood Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Greenwood, First Baptist Church of Water Valley or the Baptist Children’s Village/Reedy Acres in Water Valley.

Ranardo Tez Chartez Henderson

ENID—Ranardo Tez Chartez Henderson, 26, of Enid died in Tri-Lakes Medical Center, Batesville, Sunday, September 2, 2012.
  The funeral service was held Saturday, September 8, at eleven o’clock in the morning, in Persimmon Hill M.B. Church, Enid, with Pastor Clarence Rankins officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary of Batesville, had charge of arrangements.
  Born September 28, 1985, in Charleston, Mr. Henderson was a son of Ray Charles Thomas and Margaret Henderson. He was disabled.
  Survivors include his mother, Margaret Henderson of Enid; his father, Ray Charles Thomas of Enid; a grandmother, Barbara Henderson of Enid; two sisters, Quatesia Henderson of Charleston and JaQudra Carter of Enid; and two brothers, Santana Henderson of Enid and Larico Henderson of Holcomb.
