John Gilford Brower, Sr.
WATER VALLEY—John Gilford Brower, Sr., age 90, died Sunday, January 20, 2013, in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Mississippi at Oxford.
Born Novemer 26, 1922, in Water Valley, Mr. Brower was a son of the late U. S. Brower and Vera Mosby Brower. He was a retired farmer and switchman for the Illinois Central Railroad. Mr. Brower was a member of Turkey Creek Baptist Chruch, and the Pine Valley Historical Socity. He loved his family, gardening and farming. Mr. Brower served in World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Oyer Olline Cofer Brower, three brothers, Danny Brower, Eugene Brower, and Sidney Brower, one sister, Joyce Tulley, and a grandson, Jason Rogers.
Survivors include four daughters, Linda B. Gholson (Jim), Marty B. Taylor, and Alice Brower, all of Water Valley, and Ellen Samuels (Art) of Foley, Ala.; two sons, John Brower, Jr. (Carolyn) and David Brower (Sherry), both of Water Valley; one sister, Charlotte Grass (Andy) of Water Valley; a sister-in-law, Argie Brower of Memphis; ten grandchildren, Scoot Taylor (Shelly), Tim Gholson (Emily), Jake Campbell (Courtney), John “Trey” Brower (Laura), Cody Brower, Lori Woodard (Derrick), Melissa Kimzey (Chad), Angel Gholson, and Zack Brower; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held at two o’clock in the afternoon Tuesday, January 22, in Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel at Bruce, with Bro. Charlie Fitts officiaitng. Burial was in Turkey Creek Cemetery, Water Valley, with Tim Gholson, Scoot Taylor, Zack Brower, Cody Brower, Jake Campbell, and Derrick Woodard as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Andy Grass, Billy B. Williamson, Colto Brower, Zach Taylor, Trey Brower, and Lynn Havens.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Turkey Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
Gracie Ferrell Wolfe
OLIVE BRANCH—Gracie Ferrell Wolfe, age 70, died Thursday, January 17, 2013, at her home in Olive Branch.
Born January 28, 1942 in Walnut, Mrs. Wolfe was a daughter of the late Skelley and Alice Yopp Ferrell. She was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church and she enjoyed sewing, cooking, shopping, flower gardening and working in her yard. She dearly loved her family and her gandson, Trevor.
Visitation was held Saturday, January 19, from two until three o’clock in the afternoon in Seven Oaks Funeral Home at Water Valley. The funeral service followed visitation in the Henry Chapel of the funeral home.
Survivors include her son, James Edward “Eddie” Wolfe (Teri) of Olive Branch; one sister, Imogene Walker of Walnut; a brother, Danny Ferrell (Adelle) of Paducah, Ky.; nd one grandson, Trevor Wolfe.
In addition to her parents, Gracie was preceded in death by her husbnd, James Henry Wolfe.
