Harold T. Cardin
WATER VALLEY—Harold T. Cardin, age 90, died Wednesday, January 8, 2014, in Regional Medical Center at Memphis.
Born May 7, 1923, in Desoto County, Mr. Cardin was a son of the late Tiden and Ovie Roberson Cardin. Harold served in the 3rd Marine Division, 9th Regiment, 2nd Battalion of the United States Marine Corps where he participated in action against enemy forces at Bougainville, British Solomon Islands, Guam and Marianas Islands. He was employed for a number of years with the Memphis Police Department and later worked as a painting contractor. Harold was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, and O’Tuckolofa Baptist Church in Water Valley. He loved his animals, enjoyed collecting antique cars and was loved by everyone he met.
Visitation was held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, January 11, in Seven Oaks Funeral Home at Water Valley. The funeral service followed visitation at one o’clock in the afternoon in the Henry Chapel of the funeral home, with Bro. Dan Dickerson officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery at Water Valley.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Taylor Cardin of Water Valley; a daughter, Carol Miller (Harold) of Munford, Tenn.; one son , James Harold Cardin (Teri) of Memphis; a sister, Patricia Drischel of Hagerstown, Indiana; three grandchildren, Ashley Miller, Jason Cardin, and Kimberly Morris; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
The family requests that memorials be made to O’Tuckolofa Baptist Church, 3190 Hwy. 315 East, Water Valley, MS 38965.
Cindy Kay Hervey
WATER VALLEY—Ms. Cindy Kay Hervey, 44, died December 27, 2013, at her home on Highway 32, west of Water Valley.
She was born June 28, 1968, and was a member of Miles Memorial C.M.E. Church.
The funeral service was held Friday, January 3, 2014, at eleven o’clock in the morning in Miles Memorial C.M.E. Church, with Pastor Sherlyn Brown officiating. Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery at Water Valley..
Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Lucy Hervey of Water Valley; two sons, Tony Hervey and Gregory Hervey, both of Water Valley; brothers and sisters, Bobby Hervey (Lashunda) of Oxford, Wilson Hervey, Matthew Hervey, Wilma Towns (Rick), Lera Neely (Al), Ira Hayes (Mark), all of Water Valley, and Everlina Hervey (Eric), of Nashville, Tenn.; two grandchildren; and a special friend, Jake Pritchard.
Herman Jeffers
WATER VALLEY—Herman Jeffers, age 71, died January 11, 2014, in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Mississippi at Oxford.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 15, at eleven o’clock in the morning in Bayson Chapel M.B. Church, Water Valley, with his pastor, Rev. Amos Sims, officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Visitation was also held from noon until 6 p.m. in Serenity Daniels Chapel in Oxford. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Born March 22, 1942, in Yalobusha County, Mr. Jeffers was a son of the late Luella Phillips Jeffers and Rev. Wesley Jeffers. Herman accepted Christ and was a faithful member of Bayson Chapel M.B. Church. He enjoyed family get-togethers, hanging with his nephews and singing God’s praises. He was known throughout the community for his gift of singing.
Survivors include three sisters, Willie Mae Turner of Water Valley, Cordia Taliaferro of Dallas, Texas, and Fannie Brown of Oxford; two sisters-in-law, Zipporah Jefferson of Water Valley and Margaret Jeffers of Vallejo, Calif.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, A. T. Jefferson, Sammie Jefferson, and John Jefferson; and two sisters, Annie Lee Turner and Hattie Heard.
Mattie Frank Parker
A homegoing celebration for Mrs. Mattie Frank Parker will be held in the Spring Hill South M.B. Church at Coffeeville on Saturday, January 18, 2014, beginning at 11 a.m.
The body will be at the church at 10 a.m. for viewing. M.J. Edwards of Memphis is in charge of arrangements.
