Shannon Jahnaee’ Surrette Cain

BATESVILLE—Shannon Jahnaee’ Surrette Cain, age 38, died Thursday, June 5, 2014, in the Regional Medical Center at Memphis.
  Born in Water Valley November 12, 1975, Jahnaee’ was a daughter of Sharon Arbuckle Surrette and the late Jerry Buford Surrette.
   She graduated from Water Valley High School and then Northwest Community College where she earned her associate degree for LPN. Jahnaee’ was a homemaker, a member of Peach Creek Baptist Church, and she devoted her life to helping others in need. She enjoyed listening to gospel music, fishing, reading, and taking care of her pets. Jahnaee’ was dedicated to her family and loved spending time with them.
    Visitation was held Monday, June 9, from 5-7 p.m. in Seven Oaks Funeral Home at Water Valley. The funeral service was held at eleven o’clock in the morning Tuesday, June 10, in the Henry Chapel of the funeral home, with Rev. Fred Eakes officiating. Burial was in the Sylva Rena Cemetery near Water Valley with Matthew Legge, Dwight Arbuckle, Chris Shafer, Billy Johnson, Rodney Sullivan, Rodney Tullose, Terry Bright, and Gage Moss as pallbearers.
    Survivors include her husband, Melvin F. Cain of Batesville; her step-daughter, Jessica Lynn Cain Grace (Brandon) of Crenshaw; a step-son, Melvin Nathaniel Cain (Chelsea) of Somerville, Tenn.; her mother, Sharon Arbuckle Surrette of Oxford; two brothers, Bradford Maurice Surrette and Dalton Breck Surrette (Tosha), both of Water Valley; three step-granddaughters, Kaylee Jordan Shafer, Emmalee Claire Grace, and Braelynn Michelle Grace; one step-grandson, Trenton Michael Grace; eight nieces; and six nephews.

 Charles H. ‘Skeebo’ Gardner

OLIVE BRANCH—Charles H. “Skeebo” Gardner, 72, of Olive Branch, died Saturday, June 7, 2014.
    He was retired from the IC Railroad, the Desoto County Sheriff’s Department, and worked with the Southaven Police Department as a VIP. Mr. Gardner was a past Master of the Horn Lake Masonic Lodge 617, Hernando Masonic Lodge, Oak Grove Masonic Lodge, Zaman Grotto, and Wahhabi Shrine.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, A. B. “Jake” Gardner and Donna Mae Gardner of Oxford.
     Survivors include his wife, Joyce Wrenn Gardner, formerly of Water Valley; a son, Charles Aubrey Gardner (Lisa); granddaughters, Jessica Renee and Lauren Nicole Gardner; and a sister, Kay Valentine (Glenn).
    Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, in Forest Hill South Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at ten o’clock in the morning Wednesday, June 11, in the funeral home. Interment will follow.
