Beautiful Weather Boosts Turnout For ‘I’m Sooo Water Valley’ Party

More than 600 people, young and old, enjoyed the block party last weekend at Baker Street Park. Sack racing (above) and pie eating (below) were among the fun activities for the youngsters.

More than 600 turned out for the first annual “I’m Soo Water Valley” Block Party last Saturday at the Baker Street Park in Water Valley. The weather contributed to the grand event that included fun for the children.
The party started with an opening from event chairperson Kesha Moore, along with comments from Mayor Larry Hart. As the party got underway special guests – Sponge Bob, Hello Kitty, Mickey Mouse and Spider Man – stopped by to surprise the children. The children had a ball having their pictures taken with their favorite characters while enjoying activities with them.  
 The Memorial Hour was very heartfelt and emotional as the many names of individuals that has descended up to heaven were called and remembered. The prayer was given by Water Valley native  and U.S. Army  Minister Gary B. Walton.  Blue and white balloons were released to remember all the individuals that had lost their lives through sickness, accidents or even violent death in Water Valley.  
The A-Team barbecuers (Sherman, Brian, Centro, Jerry, Larry, Durrell and Paul) provided the food. Plenty of food, door prizes, fun and Games by Lenora were the highlights of the event.  Jerry Turner filled the park with appropriate music for both the young and old audience.  
    Committee members planning the  event include Moore, Debra Woodard, Shelia Gooch, Marie Gaston, Monica Booker, Tamera Turner, Edith Woodall, Lenora Woodard, Ternicia Mcjunkins, Kimberly Ingram, Shenail Cox, Kim Turner, Sophia Hattaway, Latasha Moore and Min. Calvin Hawkins.
“It was fun to see many current and former Water Vallians present for this memorable event,” Moore told the Herald. “We would like to thank Water Valley for help making this event a great success,” Moore added.
