Citizen Input Needed In Forums

“Taking a close look at a community’s economy can lead to new ideas, reveal trends, and identify beneficial changes for the community,” said Alyson Coleman, Yalobusha County Exten-sion Service community resource development agent. “Members of the Mississippi State University Extension Service Center for Government and Com-munity Development will facilitate the Oct. 13 forum at the Yalobusha County Extension office in Coffeeville and the Oct. 14 program at the Yalobusha County Courthouse in Water Valley.”
Both events will begin at 6 p.m.
“Taking a look at a community’s economic snapshot is an ideal way to determine ways to improve business and downtown development,” said GCD Director Sumner Davis. “Residents attending the meetings will have opportunities to participate and we will hand out a short survey to determine where local citizens shop for goods and services and why.”
Also on the program for both events will be GCD staff members Rachael Carter and Hamp Beatty.
Carter’s economic studies of Mississippi communities have been featured on National Public Radio, the Main Street Now Journal, and other national and regional media.
Beatty is a former mayor of Newton and businessman whose work at the GCD focuses on small business development. He conducts seminars throughout the state for individuals interested in starting a small business.
